Margaret Thatcher dead

His attendance is down to his desire to be the parliamentary clown. In truth he can be funny but frankly that doesn't make him someone you would want to run any part of the country. And as we all know, his hard left statist politics are dead

Grass... Maybe. I would have preferred to see a quiet occasion out of the public eye myself. That would have upset the left even more

why is everyone who objects a "leftie"..whats with this type of nonsense?..come on Clive...you don't have to wear a label of any kind to see this is wrong..she doesn't deserve what is happening tomorrow..an event that elevates her to Churchill status..which she isn't even close to.

i'll ask you one thing Clive..if Thatcher was so marvellous and deserves this "occasion"..why did her own party turf her out on her ear?...surely a leader this good should have been coveted

I think the answer is pretty obvious to the second question. Churchill's last term was hardly a success either. Terrible some would say. Do you just remember him for that.?

she went mad with power basically.."we are a grandmother" told you a lot about her elevated opinion of herself

she isn't in Churchill's league Clive

we won't be agreeing anytime soon though;)

As a wartime leader Churchill was absolutely peerless. Even now his speeches send a shiver down the spine. The blood sweat and tears speech is as moving and inspirational as you could hope to hear. Only perhaps mlk i have a dream compares. And youou have to imagine what was at stake with those words. He was touched was a certain genius in my opinion.

Certainly had his misjudgements in other areas but he is the perfect example of how leadership matters and how it can change events not just by actions but also by words

An incredible wordsmith and inspiration.

Well said and spot on.

The left are entitled to say what they want about Thatcher within the boundaries on their own minds. To expect any different is expecting millions of people not to say what they actually believe, and that type of thing only happens under Totalitarian regimes that we should never want to imitate.

A friend of mines son has an extraordinary honour tomorrow being selected as a pall bearer for Maggie, selected as a member of the British armed services. Today they had to do a rehearsal, and I asked was there anything in the coffin to match the weight , He said yes, we used coal

I'm neither left or right but I totally disagree with the fact taxpayers are paying £10 million + for this funeral. What did she honestly achieve that puts her on a par with Churchill?

Tony Benn recalled that thatcher turned up at Eric heffers funeral and was genuinely moved. She had absolutely no common ground with heffer politically but greatly respected him as a parliamentarian.

I'm no fan of Benn but I think he was making a quiet subtle and genuine point

Was she the only cow at a Heffer's funeral?

The La-Di-Dah is now officially over, so it's fair game as far as I'm concerned. :ninja:
