Just been browsing the web and, apparently, we are about to feel the coldest May in 100 years. Temperature not rising above 5c, Atlantic storms of biblical proportions etc.

But, then followed by a blazing June!

Could someone please confirm - MR2

Arent there ALWAYS storms of biblical proportions in Blackpool though? I remember getting off the train there and almost being blown over, and also when we went for a walk along the prompromprom later in the week....

Just for the record, here is how the Metoffice sees its 16-30 day forecast.

UK Outlook for Friday 4 May 2012 to Friday 18 May 2012:

The start of May looks likely to remain unsettled with a continuation of showers or longer spells of rain, although there should also be some drier and brighter interludes. Temperatures will generally be close to or slightly above the seasonal average. Conditions may turn more settled across southern England for a time, with a greater chance of some drier and sunnier weather than of late. Further north, it looks likely to stay unsettled with further rain at times, particularly across northwest England as well as northern and western parts of Scotland.

Now of course they may be wrong. And they acknowledge that it is difficult to forecast 7 days in advance. But this is what a sober analysis of the medium range weather models tells us.

I get really angry when I read weather scaremongering.

Troods, just noticed your little input.

Can I suggest that being geographically positioned as it is, our rainfall is much below average, take for instance a lack of snow these last two winters. Rain clouds appear to be diverted northwards to the lakes or southwards along the Ribble and Mersey river valleys.

Breezy sometimes perhaps, but holiday-makers could make worse decisions than a week here in Blackpool. Our new promenade is looking very attractive.

For the physicists among you, come here on a calm day and the wave motion in reflection from the curvy sea-wall is mesmerizing.

oh I loved it (wasnt very old when we came though) - definately would go back (specially now Im old enough to appreciate the nightlife )

I think we were just unlucky the week we were there !!

This is because I still don't have any central heating. When it is fixed it will be warm again; that will be approx 15th June. I have often felt that I control the thermostat of this country and I shall now find out how correct I am. At bank holidays, if I leave the heating on at work it's always warm and if I turn it off it's cold. I never realised that it now spills over into my home life, but it obviously does. I am open to bribery and hoping that doing so will replenish my pension fund.

I thought this was a boxing thread

It's been so dark this afternoon here in Brussels you'd think there was a solar eclipse going on. There's been a lot of rain as well.
