Melbourne Cup

Dunaden is reckoned by his stable to have improved and strengthened considerably since last year, and his form gives every indication that is the case.
13/2 will do nicely.

Dunadem for me too, landed a nice touch on him in the caulfield cup at 10/1 and he has got to be there or thereabouts.Disappointed Brigantin is not getting a run though.Green Moon is overpriced for me too.

Last year there was a slight time delay for viewers on ATR -no more then 5 minutes.I have backed Mourayan for a right few quid and don't know if I should get up or do the sensible thing and sky plus it.

Mourayan has either had problems or been put away for this. Hasn't run since April and they have dropped him in trip since they bought him. At 25/1 he's worth a saver.

i'd say hes been put away for this. Last year, in the race after the Cup he finished 3rd to Americain beaten 3/4 l off level weights. Tomorrow, Mourayan receives 10lb's.

A few weeks ago my youngest child ended up in a&e at 2 in the morning. When I got home there was a good card from Oz on atr-Mourayan fought like a tiger to jabs a gamble -I hope I haven't confused him with another ex Aga Khan horse.

Hugh Bowman never rides as low as 53.5kg so i think this is significant. Mourayan is owned by Lloyd Williams who runs Australia's biggest private stable and has already had three Melbourne Cup winners - Just A Dash, What A Nuisance and Efficient. Heres an interesting piece of information, when What A Nuisance won the 1985 Melbourne Cup, the VRC had as its special guest Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Prince Charles will be a special guest this year with the Duchess Of Cornwall!

Only finished work at midnight so I may as well stay up for the race, especially with an NFL game being on as well. Can't really see why Dunaden should finish outside the places so have had a small each way bet on him for a bit of interest.

My tips are:

1) Americain - it has been raining over night, so the soft touch will just add to his chances in the finish. Horribly ridden last start by Gerard Mosse. Has now been replaced with the controversial Australian jockey Damien Oliver. If he wins, I can almost bet my house on it that Damien Oliver will retire. Google if you have not heard the story, its the biggest news of the day downunder today!

2) Dunaden - brilliant last start Caulfield Cup winner. 3 starts in Australia for 3 wins. Drawn horribly, but he is a past winner of the event and Craig Williams deserves this win more than anyone else after being suspended last year. Only issue are the weight and the draw. But I cannot help but keep him in.

3) Mount Athos - the smokey and the one who has seriously gotten under the handicapper's watchful eye in the 2012 edition. Luca Camani has brought his most solid performer and highest rated galloper for this race out.

Who I would honestly love to see win: ETHIOPIA. This is one of only two Australian-bred gallopers in the field, alongside Niwot. I really would love to see this guy win for Australia's sake.

I've had a great day and watched the race live in an Aussie bar Bangkok at 11 am local time and boy do these guys love this race.....Bar owners got the lap top up taking bets and almost to a man there on Mount Athos...........my Aussie mate's Thai whateveryouwannacallHER backs number 13 and 14 and of course gets the winner whereas the rest of us drown our sorrows in beer Singha as Ryan Moore takes the long way round for a shortcut..mate gets a SMS from her indoors back in Oz all exited she's backed the winner as well (WEIRD) so he rings the bell and buys the whole bar a drink.
Then it's back to the racing and I'm down 1,700 Baht which is about 35 quid and a few kicks in the Ass for telling them Mount Athos is the one to be on'''''2 hours later I'm pissed and back a horse called the Great White Hope at some remote Aussie meeting and I end up 100 baht in front for the day plus free drink and a yummy pork pie......came back had a kip, off to some posh joint for dinner few bottles of red then back out on the pi$$.........these Aussies play tough.....have a great day!!

Should have let Fallon ride it you know.
