I have always been somewhat of a breakfast bar for mozzies - the bastids love me. God knows what it is but I must taste sublime to them - maybe they have a penchant for vodka and/or salt. Since moving out here I've found ways to manage them and not get eaten alive - but recently the bastards have decided that Dom tastes grand again - despite the plug in mozzy repeller beside the bed (fresh tablets every night) and the strict diet comprising of a high percentage of vodka and tonic - the bastids hate the tonic [it's the quinine so I'm told]!! Tonight it's driving me mad as I'm discovering more and more bites on the body and on discovering them they suddenly start itching more and become unbearable....arrgghh!!! Bloody mozzies - what purpose do they serve??!! Other than eating me alive and waking me at 4am by buzzing in my ear that is.....:angy:

We never used them when we lived in Africa, but you could consider using a mozzie net over the bed, Shadz. Just don't get up in the dark and forget it's there! They're supposed to hate the smell of citron, so maybe spritzing the bedroom/flat with an orange-smelling air spray might help? The whining is really annoying, though, and then the sudden stop, when you figure your arm is being used as a snack bar! :P

I can't be doing with the nets, auntie - I have bit of a rep for sleep walking and I would end up stringing myself up I'm sure!!!!!

You ain't wrong about that whine though - nowt worse with being woken inthe early hours by that ZZzzzzz!!! Bastards!!! I have lots of citronella oil too, mught have to get that out but I find it's not the nicest scent to sleep with....

Exactly the same reasons we had, Dom! :D We'd slept net-free for some time, until we finally got a proper house (i.e. made of brick and with a tile roof!), where the Government had installed mozzie nets in all the bedrooms. My parents tried theirs out as a bit of a novelty, but due to my Mother's bed-thrashing habits, she got tangled up in it, pulled it off the ceiling, and then they both had to wrestle themselves out of the mess in the early hours. It stayed down ever after! Yuk, citronella coils were something that some people burned. You could hardly breathe - which was one way of solving the mozzie problem! Good luck. I'm going to buzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeee off to bed now... :D

It could be worse. This is what they did to me last time I was bitten. That swelling goes all the way up to my knee and down to my toes. It hurt a tad.

Looks like a brain tumor to me PDJ. Drinking milk of magnesia may help.

I have the same problem and remember being eaten alive in the Amazon jungle by the little bastards, despite having a net (couldn't use a plug in - no electricity). Mind you the lodge manageress had do give me rub down every morning with some alcohol solution. Cuba was the worst place I've ever been for them.

I've actually found scolding water takes a lot of the itch away if you can bare the initial couple of seconds of pain whilst dabbing it on (its not that bad). Mind you, if you over do the temperature then it'll blister the skin.

I would post you a picture of Warblers back after he took the 'Amazonian machine gunning', but luckily for all concerned I don't have a scanner, and even if I did I don't know how to post a picture still

Is that water saying things like

"Now how many times have you been told not to go out without your NBC suit on. You've only got yourself to blame, if I've told you once I've told you a hundred times......"

?? :D

I've found about 6/7 bites this morning, all in the same sort of area... :( Oh well, narrows down the area for scratching I suppose....

Tell St Vic to come back to the UK and pay his taxes and levy like a good man and then you will be grand. :)

My other half has a tendency to allergic reactions to mozzie bites. Cue a trip to the doctors every time we go on holiday! I've found good old Boots repellent to be effective. Its the one containing DEET which I think there is the odd scare story about (whatever it is) but what the hell - it seems to work!

I thought this was another thread slagging Muslims, but happily not.

I recommend lots of garlic in the diet supplemented by garlic pills. They can't stand it. Having said that I am a bit swarthy an have never felt one bite me, but going south with Mrs AC usually ends up with her looking like a red spotted dalmation.

TRIP... my boots or trainers have the same effect too ppppppppoooooooohhhhhhh ........ :P :D ;)

Have you tried a shot of ouzo?

When we´re abvroad, we always drink a shot before going out. We´re seldom, if ever, bitten. The advice came courtesy of an old Greek woman many years ago (although maybe she had shares in the ouzo firm).

Ouzo & tonic might work even better.

That was a horsefly that bit Paul, not a mosquito, unless they have started frequenting sunny Brum.
He is allergic to the bites, usually happens once or twice a year, very funny if you see him as he cant chase after you if you decide to throw water over him
