Hi all.
Don't worry, I'm not after sponsorship!
Completed an 8K today in too hot weather in just over an hour and feeling on a high from what is, for me, a near PB performance, I decided to enter one of the runs that has been on my Wish List. The aptly named "Sodbury Slog" a 10 mile apparently "multi terrain" cross country event. I may regret it on the day, but at the same time, it looks like a right laugh. Check out the photo page! Sodbury Slog
Time to ask the all important question - what should I have written on my shirt?!?

Go for it, Sue. I thought I was doing well entering the 5km jog two years running, which reminds me, I really must start training soon. :shy:

Go for it, Sue! Looks like agony and ecstasy to me. Agony for you, and ecstasy for me to know I'm never going to do anything like it! May I suggest something like "Sodden Sodbury" or "Sodding Sodbury" for the tee? norty

Kathy, well done on entering your run. When is it? As I always say, what seems like a hill to some people can seem like Everest to others, so good on ya!
Euro, I've never tried a treadmill, I'm far too nosy and love the outdoors, but 25 mins is still cool.
Kri, I like the suggestions! "Soggy Sue Slogs round Sodding Sodbury!"
Although "Hug Me" appeals as well.
I think it'll be agony when I go and ecstasy when I finish. Although the entry form states "I have temporarily taken leave of my senses" so they have the right attitude!!

Bimey! You are mad.

You may not be looking for sponsorship, but we will donate!

Send us details nearer the time, and a reminder because of course we are old and forgetful now.

I suppose you could always have a T-shirt that says sponsored by Talking Horses!

Kathy, well done on entering your run. When is it?
Beginning of July. My best friend lost his Mum last weekend to pancreatic cancer which spurred me on to put my name down and I will be running in her name this year.

My friend's Mum was only 76, looked as fit as a flea and saved up all her money from little cleaning jobs etc every year to go on various cruises around the world with her sister. They had one booked for this September. :(

Pancreatic cancer is the silent killer as she had no idea she was sick until it was too late and there was no chance of saving her.

I'll join in with Isinglass, girls - I'll donate to you both if, as she says, you'll remind us nearer the time! I have enough trouble remembering why I've walked from one room to another these days!

Kathy, very good of you. I think of you and your own dear Mother enjoying yourselves at Brighton, a happy memory of her, and how too soon and too suddenly she was taken from you and the family.

Kathy, will definatley be sponsoring you, that's for sure. You'll have to remind me, I'm not "old and forgetful!" :P , just insane, so will need that reminder! Thanks for the offers of sponsorship guys. I was going to be cheeky and ask for sponsors for the Great North Run, 5 weeks before Sodbury, so I guess it could be a combined effort! All offers much appreciated!

My running calender is getting quite full at the moment Have a look and each one of these runs is being run in memory of my Grandad, wearing this T-shirt below----

....but obviously, this would get ruined in the mud at Sodbury so that's why I need a new phrase. I have a similar shirt for my Nan from last year. How to make members of your family cry at once!

On a slightly different note, I have just started riding again after 6 years out the saddle, so it will be interesting to see if this improves my fitness/leg tone at all. Cantered yesterday for the first time without stirrups in those 6 years, which was wicked. The week before, trotted without stirrups on a grandson of Northern Dancer, whose action resembled a pogo stick. That was interesting! Sorry I know this is slightly off topic but I've only been back riding 4 weeks and loving it already!!

It'll do wonders for your inner thighs, Sue! Definitely you'll benefit far more from working without stirrups for a while. You will find that deep seat again, improved balance, and the pelvic area tightening up more by not using the stirrups. It's much more tiring, as your legs are flexing far more than with a stirrup to just rest them in at the walk. When you do get back to using them and posting at the trot, then you'll find your calves getting a good work out, plus the gluteals as the bum has to be raised off the seat somehow! Good for you - let's have a photo of you up in due course!

Sue, Love the T-Shirt, a real tear jerker but a great tribute.

This is fantastic that you are back riding, maybe one day I will get brave again. :)

I know that Solerina seems to have given up posting on here, but she, Shadow, a couple of other forumites of equal nuttiness, all proposed having a TalkingHorses Flat race at some time! At the current rate of ability and fitness, I have Shadow Leader, fudge, tetley, Love Everlasting, Trudi, jinnyj, Kathy, Triptych, and Songsheet down for the 4f Scurry. I see jinnyj at 1-12 at present...

Lining up (more or less) for the 2f Trot I have Desert Orchid, Ardross, Venusian (unless you've been up on the sly recently, Ven?), Uncle Goober, Diminuendo, Muttley, suerunner, Isinglass, me, and anyone else either optimistic or daft enough to chuck a leg over a nice, quiet nag. First to Sean Fox themselves to the ground will be made to go back to the start and do it again.

Kri,

I just knew that underneath that respectable exterior lurked a mad, bad dangerous to know woman! :)

I would consider it a big achievement for me to just get on the horse let alone make it move forward! (With me still onboard).

Can I have a special dispensation of a donkey? What about sidecars?

:D Well, maybe we can have a helpful stable lass or lad run alongside, keeping us on board? And maybe we'll cut the distance down to just one furlong? With oxygen and water available en route?

I am prepared - for a price - to offer the loan of one Mags (aka The Beast) for the 2f version - max weight she can carry would be about 90kgs, I think....
