Thought I’d start doing my notebooks again - four today:

1:50 Ascot: Enamorus was quite strongly supported as 9/4f on her debut last time which was in a Class2 - 10/7 still last with a furlong go she finished strongly into third (dh) without having been put under that much pressure. This one is Class3.

6:38 York: Gold Dawn - 30/5 in the lead when became unbalanced after jumping a shadow in the last furlong. Winner went past and had the momentum. Gold Dawn was eased towards the end and would have at least been a lot closer in second. Unlucky. 21/6 favourite, but well down the field in this Class 2. Wait for a drop in Class.Down to Class 3 this time, it might be enough of a drop.

7:48 York: Modern Utopia - 8/6 Modern Utopia was upped in Class and tried in the Cheshire Oaks over the furthest - 1m31/2f - she has run, but didn’t feature in the race won by the Oaks winner Minnie Hauk and looked outclassed at the Listed level. Today, she was slowly away - but she’s usually held up anyway - and stayed at the back until inside the last couple of furlongs and although she made good progress she had nothing extra when push came to shove, just making fourth at the death. She had her preferred going this time in another Listed race, although not of the calibre of the last one. My interest was to see if she’s comfortable at a less competitive Listed level and I don’t think she is. She didn’t run badly, though and I reckon she’ll win if dropped in Class. 19/7 same again (4th) in another Listed at Newmarket.This one today is Listed as well and my doubts remain.

7:48 York: Revoir - 17/5 ran a bit green, but ran on well pressing winner all the way. She’s fine at this level. 6/6 out of her depth in Oaks. Wait for lowered sights. The race that put her in the book was Listed, as is this one and that’s well within her compass.

Whatever mark this horse gets it won't really matter. He'll be very interesting in the autumn over two miles.

Worth noting that the Newbury winner went on to win a French gp2.

Ps. I wrote it incorrectly - the noted race was Listed, as is this one. Have amended it in the first post.

Well, that was poor and I’m stuck in A&E so haven’t even seen them. Probably just as well.

I’m pretty battered, but ok. Been weeding, stood up too quickly and passed out. Woke up face down on terrace with gashed eyebrow. Now look as if I’ve had five rounds with Mike Tyson. Fifty or more people in A&E, four hours. I really don't know how they cope - security men all over the place, walls covered in “please don’t abuse our staff notices”.

Can’t be bothered with racing today. Will catch up later.

Hope you're good again soon. I'm no doctor, but no harm in trying a magnesium supplement for 3 days, it solved my faintness and the need to lean against a wall when standing up quickly, or just at random. Bloods showed low iron, but the iron tablets didnt fix it. 3 magnesium supplements did though, also my muscles twitching stopped too, like rapid jitters in the odd random muscle. i just take one once per week now or even fortnight or longer, even though they're a daily supplement.

Interesting that Dingo - for the last few years I’ve had two consultants in a tug of war. One wants to keep my blood pressure high (he’s winning at the moment), the other worries that my bp is far too high and wants it down. I’ll ask them about the supplement.

Anyway, back to more important things. I missed Elmonjed yesterday which is a pain and nothing today. Better get ready for Goodwood - dad used to run a coach load there from our pub in the early 50s and I was usually aboard.

No notebooks today which is rather surprising, but eight races to enjoy at Goodwood. I’ll keep clear of the handicaps.

2:30 Audience won the Lennox last year and if he’s up for it (he’s not the most reliable of beasts) I think he’ll be there or thereabouts again. He hung quite badly last time out and first time cheek-pieces might help him keep straight today.

3:05 Illinois stepped into the breach left by Kyprios in the GoldCup at Royal Ascot and was not disgraced behind Trawlerman. He’ll have been trained for the distance this time and is Ryan Moore’s choice despite the potential of Scandinavia.

4:20 There’s always a danger of a top notch 2yo leaping out of the woodwork, but they’ll have to be pretty good to see off Naval Light who didn’t look too shabby finishing quite strongly in the Norfolk at Royal Ascot after a slow start and without the clearest of runs late on.
 
Wednesday 30th July

Three nice runs, but no coconut. Audience managed to get rid of his main rival before the off, but could do nothing about the eventual winner and second. Illinois looked like the winner, but succumbed to the younger legs of his stablemate in the end (B365 had a super boost “evens either to win” which seemed a bit of a steal). Naval Light attracted heavy support - Simon Nott reported that the Star Sports Tatterstalls pitch alone took two bets of £27,500 and £24,000 - but he couldn’t catch the winner. Didn’t seem to be any excuse. My best bet of the day was to leave the handicaps alone.

Three notebooks today, but not a bet in sight.

3:05 Field Of Gold went in the notebook after the Craven in April - 16/4 Field of Gold fair thumped a decent field in the Craven, even though Gosden implied he was not wound up for it “ This is a trial, it's not the Guineas. You're not fully wound up for this, the race now puts them where you want them - that's the idea of the trial. He went to his girth and had a good blow, but then he's entitled to.” - and he’ll stay in the book until he’s beaten, so I expect him there until he retires. Not that he’ll ever be a price to back.

In the same race is Docklands who went in the notebook in early June - 7/6 he was tardy at the start which left him in the rear and as the race progressed he found himself boxed in and couldn’t get in the clear until inside the last two. That left him with too much to make up on the leaders, although he finished stronger than anything into third. He was better than the bare result.- then he beat Rosallion in his next race. He’ll do more, but he can’t expect better than second here. Maybe a place bet?

The other one is Circios at Redcar, but he’s odds-on - 7/6 slowly away she was still last two out and then stormed down rail taking everything in this big field bar the winner. She had no chance with the winner, but left the rest well behind. Promising.

Others at Goodwood I’ll be watching the market for are Jabaara 1:55, Military Code 2:30 and Zelaina 4:20.

Oh! Come on! I’ve just got in, replete after a splendid lunch at the Crooked Billet with my good lady and find the internet choc-a-bloc full of the most stupid fake news. “150/1 Qirat wins the Sussex”. What a laugh, can someone post up the real result and let me know how much Field Of Gold won by. Thx.
