Hello everyone, I'm the black poodle. I am a lifelong racing fan. Recently found your interesting forum after seeing it mentioned in the racing post. I run a small racing syndicate.

There are no other Blackpoodles on here is there Merlin? :P

Welcome to the site Theblackpoodle! B)

Hi - I am new and I am from Germany! My boyfriend is from Bury / Lanc. and we follow english and irsh racing very closely.
Crazy Horse is one of my favs, but I have many - all time Great must be See More Business, but we are into Flat Racing, too, and I was a massive Persian Punch Fan. ( Stiff am - so sad he is gone ! )

My first visit to a racetrack was back in 1978 - German Derby, and I was allowed to have a small bet and picked the Derby winner because I liked his name so much. That was that :D

We travel to England every year to go racing and are regulars at Yorks Ebor Meeting and the Guineas.

Hello to all!

Welcome to all the new members - delighted to see that the bit in the RP has brought in fresh blood!

Crazy Horse - Where in Germany are you based? My b/f used to work for Heinz Jentsch & Erica Mader back in the 80s originally he went over as an apprentice but got on the beer all day and got too fat to ride! I make him work very hard these days and only give him £5 a week pocket money so he can't afford to drink any more - but he is very slim now!

Hello everyone. I've already been made to feel welcome (thanks!), but for anyone who was thinking I'd be a useful source...

I have no direct involvement with horses. I'm a punter. And not a very good one. I got started on a cold day in Leeds, where I sheltered unwisely in a shop which happened to contain lots of ashtrays and a small stage, where a bloke in a tank-top was scribbling on the wall. I put a pound on Strands of Gold (Scudamore aboard) in what must have been the 1988 Hennessy Gold Cup, which got me eight quid and a frustrating hobby. The RP archive reckons it went off at 10/1, so I was picking short prices even then, unless I got done on the tax.

I've gradually worked my way down from a fog ticket at Wetherby to a season ticket at Sandown, and have nothing but admiration for all the people, talent and effort that go into keeping the sport alive. Somehow it seems to get better every year.

That said, it's nothing without the horses, and I'm one who thinks Baracouda is about the most impressive I've ever seen. If only because I never won a bet on Desert Orchid.

No. I backed him. Twenty quid on the nose. The fact that when I rang Corals, I meant to say Rhinestone Cowboy, but the tongue slipped is irrelevant. I called back the next minute and tried to change the bet to the O'Neill horse, but they wouldn't let me. :D

 what a shame you did not make the same mistake the last three years with Best Mate

@ jinnyj

We live in Hamburg but know Erika well. We have a horse in training with her, but she hardly drinks beer  My friend was her secretary for some time, but our involvement with Erika started only in the mid-ninties.

beer: I know what you mean - should start your methid with my friend ...
