BZ wasn't off an inch that day. Will be a good stone better at Newbury if that is the target.
True about horses turning up.Much depends on which horses turn up. Burdetts Road or 150 would see Joyeuse 123 carry 10st and very hard to beat despite his inexperience... last year 139 was the highest or.
You got some funny ideas about horses not being off...if he was stopped why did James Bowen come flying home...obviously that drew attention to the horse did it not? Last thing you would want when stopping one.BZ wasn't off an inch that day. Will be a good stone better at Newbury if that is the target.
Fwiw, the pace was steady, they were virtually in line approaching the last, resulting in a sprint finish which wouldn't be a good guide for the 'Schweppes'.Interesting.
I'd urge all forumites to view the race in question and I'd like to hear some more thoughts.
Tanlic has got a point, in that you really couldn't back the horse based on the first 1M 7F of the last race.
You wouldn't want to be that far back in this event either.
It's all about how he finishes in that final furlong though.
Was he just staying on against beaten horses?
Or not fully tuned up and being readied for another day?
I can't make my mind up, but I've got another four weeks to decide.
She'll maybe not run there, but Nicky will figure her out,no doubt. He did run a stinker when he first joined Gary Moore but then won a couple of lesser races before running a blinder at Aintree when just failing to peg back a WPM mare. The worry is that form has proved to be worthless. His latest race was against moderate opposition and he's been hit with another 3lbs for his troubles...I think he'll find the Schweppes is not for small boys to play with
.
Interesting.

The market was a massive guide in that race too.Bo Zenith and Willmount are both trained by Henderson and in the same ownership. To my eye this race was for Willmount, who is well regarded, with Bo Zenith, who was new to the yard, being given a run to see what he was like. Bo Zenith had already lost position and was in last place when Willmount fell and James Owen then started to get into the race, even then he didn’t give him a hard time and they must have been very pleased with what they saw. As a fact finding mission I doubt that Bo Zenith was “Henderson ready” - he will be next time.

Willmount opened 5/1 SP 17/2
Bo Zenith opened 18/1 SP 7/1
I actually backed Bo Zenith about 5-10 minutes before the off, was on course and nearly fell over when I saw the SP's.Ah! Didn’t look at that, tigs. I still think Willmount was their one, if only because of the way Bo Zenith was ridden in the race. (I was on Willmount, but hadn’t added because of the drift, so I would say that wouldn't i.)
Dysart Enos still holds an entry (official?) in the Champion Hurdle so, off 135, is surely thought well handicapped.
'Personally I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole'.You got some funny ideas about horses not being off...if he was stopped why did James Bowen come flying home...obviously that drew attention to the horse did it not? Last thing you would want when stopping one.
The truth is Bowen overdid the waiting targets and while others were taken off their feet trying to catch the leader his mount eventually got going last of all and run past a hoard of beaten horses. He covered the the ground late on much faster than the winner but that is only to be expected...personally I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole the gallop they go on the Betfair Hurdle as he could easily be taken off in his feet in what will be a much better race than Cheltenham was. Chances are Nicky could l be thinking Festival for him
Don't say zi didn't warn you. You come up with some great posts there's no denying that but your big weakness is your conspiracy theories... They don't stop horses as many times as you seem to think. As I said at the time you don't come flying through the field like an express train if your stopping one...had he been good enough to stop he'd have finished stone last and no one would have given him a second lookI've re-watched the race with an imaginary big bet on Bo Zenith to see how critical I could be.
I've been watching racing for long enough to know that when something in a good midfield position gradually loses a lot of ground with the jockey making no effort to correct it then it is because the horse is not there to win that day.
The commentator said the pace was steady but I reckon the 27/28mph they were clocking through the race is better than that although much depends on the ground, which I'm not sure about that day.
The winner was clearly getting faster through the final stages and the chasing pack didn't exactly slow down so BZ did really well to come through nearly all of them.
I reckon had Bowen not made some kind of finishing effort the stewards would have had him in. He knew he had no chance from where he was and was in a position to appear to ride a finish.
But the bottom line is that he was not intending to win that race with that ride.
I got one for Newbury but will wait to check a few things out and see what ends up with Too weight'Personally I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole'.
I reckon fav backers will be thinking the same after today.
Fair to play you, Tan.
You called it right.
That's one less to worry about for Newbury.
