Newmarket July Meeting

Arabian Queen will make it.

which would mean a pace similar to Ascot..not too good for hold up horses. i'd be wanting to see something else press her before i got excited about either of the first two in the market having a really good chance of winning.

bearing in mind that Newmarket isn't going to stop horses in front like Ascot does and the more i look at the race the more the need for a proper pace seems crucial...without it could see a shock result if its a 3 furlong pace burn up with just 7 runners

Just noted that the only horse to win the Diane in a faster time than AC was Treve in 2013 some 1.6s seconds faster and Star of Seville won in 0.3s slower time than AC, all were described as Good ground!
Lucida didn't win the coronation though did she and seems to find one to good for her. Think that Fintry and Arabian Queen will make the pace and rather expect Soumillon to deliver her late on, hopefully anyway.

Lucida didn't win it no...but thats a bit like saying someone gives Bolt a 3 metre start and loses by a foot..didn't beat him. I don't rate or read races based on the final result..i look for horses that are teh best in the race...works for me over a period of time anyway

i hope you are right about the pace..i'm not confident though it will be truly run.

The key point is pace. The French filly has more gears which ultimately won her the race as she put enough daylight between them.
On another day, different pace scenario, different position. You could get a different result. Not a lot between them.
Had they met in the Guineas, Lucida would have finished in front.
The French filly in a more tactical race.

As for today, I'm not sure at all what the outcome will be.

I'll the watch race again but I thought Lucida ran a cracker given she didn't travel supremely well at Ascot.
It should take a top class filly to beat her today, but stranger things have happened I suppose...I've stayed out of the race betting-wise.

My best guess is she'll either go-on from Ascot and win by ten lengths today or finish a disappointing fourth.:ninja:

Aye, Manning was pushing away from just after the turn for home, didn't look like she was going to go as close as she actually did in the Coronation for a while, takes a lot of class to respond to pressure in a group 1 of that calibre, imo.

Looks like another day of near impossible races to crack. Best advice if you intend betting in every race is keep a couple of quid in your back pocket for the bus home:)

The July Cup is no less a puzzle than any other race but a horse I have always liked if only for his consistency is Jack Dexter.

He'll need luck in running but is almost always there about and in a recent race at York he was finishing best of all over 5f like he was crying out for 6f.

Perhaps not one to have the kitchen sink on but he's the best backed outsider overnight and has been been matched to the tune of 5.5k from 48 to 32 and the best backed horse in the place market at 9.00 bar the fav.

Brazen Beau would've won the Jubilee had it been 100yds shorter, and should simply be too good for these over this lesser test.

Well that was a bit closer than expected. Great run by Tropics but the winner is clearly something special

july cup is one of the best races at the meeting, its the one race all the champion sprinters turn up for every year. usually an easy race to solve, that handicapper you mention
was 2nd last year to slade power in july cup(champion sprinter 2014) that race had undrafted back in 4th, that has since gone onto win a group 1 sprint. obviously the winner
today hated the track and was unbalanced, and fought back just like a champion sprinter should do.
