Noted in running - Flat 2022

Chiefofchiefs was matched at 10/1 before drifting to as much as 40/1 on the machine.

Never in the hunt Haley shoved him up the ass of every horse she could find

Price and way he was ridden would indicate they made their minds up beforehand today was not the day

One to take a chance with in his next couple of races..could reward at a decent price

Without checking didnt it win the wokingham last year.

One Ruler 4.05 Victoria Cup. They were using this as a sighter for the Royal Hunt Cup. Kept out the back. A couple of tugs when he was going well and then ran on nicely when the handbrake was off. The extra distance will be ideal.

Don't watch many 2yo races, but happened to catch Catterick's 1.45 today.
Off probably too strong a pace, Cathy Come Home won handsomely.Won't be much of a bet nto, but against better class or a stiffer stamina test, she looks a sure-fire winner for the future.

From today's York 3.00 - Cockalorum. This was my main bet in the race and I had it in a double with Nate The Great at Newmarket so naturally I was paying more attention than usual to one horse. I went from feeling good about it as they turned for home to feeling horrified at seeing the jockey take a definite pull to the back of the field. I keep saying, all I'll ever ask is that my horse is trying so this was not what I wanted to see. I thought I'd then see how Rogue Bear was getting on only for BJ's white blaze to catch my eye. I hadn't been watching the prelims either, just listening to them in the background while sorting tomorrow's cards, so had no idea that Cockalorum had drifted as much as BJ had shortened. Am I right in thinking it was virtually pulled up? Have they come up with an excuse for it? If the net result is that the horse drops a few pounds in the weights, he'll have a huge chance in the Magnet Cup or any handicap they choose to target.

No obvious excuse............

"lost its action in the home straight and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities"

It didn't look to me like it lost its action. It was a definite pull. You could almost hear the jockey going, "Whooaaahh..." and then eased right off.

It was, of course, Musselbutgh rather than Catterick, but just caught, in the Morning Line where Paul Mulrennan said she was the best 2yo he'd ever sat on.
Might not be too hot on rembering courses, but none too daft on spotting horses.

I watched the victoria cup again last night and I came to the same conclusion as you.
And with tanlic about CHIEFOFCHIEFS.

Newmarket, 12 April, 10f 3yo handicap - This is the race I put on the new thread but I'd like to single out third-placed Israr for special mention.

The race comment says:

"... ran a promising race on this seasonal reappearance considering he looked burly enough in the paddock and didn't appear at all in love with the Dip. Out of Oaks and King George heroine Taghrooda, he looks set to relish 1m4f and can leave this behind."

The handicapper has left his mark [89] alone and the chances are that this is Group horse down the line. He might be very interesting if he can get into the King George V handicap at the royal meeting off this kind of mark.

Wins 3/1.

I didn't back it today. Just too many unknown quantities for my liking but nice to get a winner for the thread and obviously Euro was on it today at a bigger price so pleased for him as well, especially after being unlucky yesterday with Rogue Bear.

I had to back it today even at 10/3. I think he'll win again. He can't get more than 3lbs.

I think he'll go up at least 5lbs. Despite the tight finish behind him, it was populated by likely improvers and it's always a good race.

It's highly likely he'll improve for a step up in trip, being out of Taghrooda, and I'd anticipate a big run in the KGV at Ascot.

Silence Please 3:15 Goodwood. 2/1fav and going well when the door was slammed in her face just after she started her challenge just over a furlong out. Badly hampered and knocked all over the place she did well to finish third.

She's in the Bronte Stakes at York this Saturday. I think 5/1 is acceptable given the quality of the field - Search for a Song heads the market but I'm not convinced she'll run as she's been busy so far this season including running last week. I do like the yard switch with Silence Please and Balding won this last year.

Up 6lbs.

That was quite a performance from My Astra today - Ayr 3:20 - TM let her loose with a furlong and a half left and she just sprinted away from a pretty decent field. This was Class1 Listed and she looked right at home and ready for better.

Haydock 2.35 - Outgate - I didn't have a bet in the race so no axe to grind but if I had anything to do with the horse I would not be best pleased - to put it very mildly - with Tom Marquand. I'm not saying the horse would/should have won but he came there appearing to be going every bit as easily as the winner only for TM to go for a non-existent gap when there was plenty of room to his left. The horse had to check and the jockey gave up, safe in the knowledge he'd be third. I reckon this horse is some way better than its finishing position. I reckon he'd have been involved in the finish and will be rating him accordingly.

Inchicore is a flat horse trained by Alan King who I had an eye on last season and she won at Goodwood earlier in a decent class two over 1M6F looking like she might even get 2 miles.

It wouldn't surprise me now she's back in form if she kicked on again from today in another decent staying race.

The Northumberland Plate is coming up next month at my local track. Could it be...

Answer, no. As she's not entered.

The Copper Horse handicap over 1M6F at Royal Ascot would be perfect for her with a probable mark in the mid 90s after today.

I hope Alan King is reading in.

Go for another handicap Alan please not some 4 runner listed or group race.

I think Urban Artist suffered the most in the interference and was unlucky.

An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong when the winner, BELIEVE IN LOVE (IRE), ridden by Ray Dawson, interfered with GLENARTNEY, placed third, ridden by Ross Coakley, who in turn interfered with MIGHTY BLUE (FR), placed fourth, ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle, who in turn interfered with URBAN ARTIST, placed second, ridden by P. J. McDonald, who in turn interfered with SILENCE PLEASE (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by Rob Hornby. The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved BELIEVE IN LOVE (IRE)’s placing as the interference took place a sufficient distance from the winning line to allow the sufferers of the interference time to mount a challenge with BELIEVE IN LOVE (IRE) always appearing to hold the sufferers to win by 1 1/4 lengths. Dawson was suspended for 8 days for careless riding as he failed to take sufficient action to prevent his mount from drifting right-handed for a considerable distance carrying GLENARTNEY off its intended line firstly onto MIGHTY BLUE (FR) causing that horse to check and then secondly URBAN ARTIST whose rider had to take a significant check to avoid running onto heels and in the process carried SILENCE PLEASE (IRE) off its intended line.
