Noted in running - Flat 2022

2.00 haydock saturday

SKYCUTTER slow away and switched left.came wide and making progress Curtis gave him a backhander and dropped his whip so basically gave up.i see he has a entry in the Northumberland plate and at 40/1 I will have a go.

Outsider, have you read the analysis of the race in the RP, it was also discussed on ITV Racing, it seems that the jockey aggravated an old shoulder problem and was apparently in too much pain to ride the horse out. Doesn'y invalidate your thoughts but might affect the value you might get.

I didnt know that thanks Col.

Would he have been referred to the racecourse doctor to have the shoulder checked or the story verified?

Did he give up the rest of his rides?

I see he doesn't have any booked rides before Wednesday.

If he didn't have a suspension coming up then I'll be giving him the benefit of the doubt over Skycutter.

Haydock 2.35 - Outgate - I didn't have a bet in the race so no axe to grind but if I had anything to do with the horse I would not be best pleased - to put it very mildly - with Tom Marquand. I'm not saying the horse would/should have won but he came there appearing to be going every bit as easily as the winner only for TM to go for a non-existent gap when there was plenty of room to his left. The horse had to check and the jockey gave up, safe in the knowledge he'd be third. I reckon this horse is some way better than its finishing position. I reckon he'd have been involved in the finish and will be rating him accordingly.

Just got round to assessing the race, which reminded to watch it again.

... was probably not well worded. The front three [at that stage] were all being ridden but, having watched it again, I stand by my initial impression that Outgate would have been involved in the finish, probably a close third.

The race is usually strong form and this renewal seems to be no exception. The handicapper has raised the first two 10lbs and 9lbs respectively but has had to leave Outgate alone.

For me, this means the horse will be about 8lbs well-in in his next handicap, which I presume will be the Britannia. Entries haven't been published yet - the Hunt Cup and Wokingham are the only handicaps that have - and only two bookies, PP and Betfair (ergo effectively one bookie) have priced up a selection of possible entries. They have Outgate at 20/1 but I can probably afford to hold off until the weights are released and see how others price it up.

The "good news" for me is that none of the race comments note what I believe I saw so it might not be in too many people's notebooks.

Romantic Rival..ran on strongly to beat Frankie on Kings Joy by the smallest margin, one for my tracker. :)

Be careful, she was dropped into this Class4 handicap having been running in Class1 Listed and Group races. She may be put back up in Class and may struggle a bit.

Inchicore is a flat horse trained by Alan King who I had an eye on last season and she won at Goodwood earlier in a decent class two over 1M6F looking like she might even get 2 miles.

It wouldn't surprise me now she's back in form if she kicked on again from today in another decent staying race.

The Northumberland Plate is coming up next month at my local track. Could it be...

Entered up in the Copper House Stakes on Tuesday at Royal Ascot.

This is the post I mentioned on the other thread.

Sir Henry Cotton
Won at Lingfield today, his sharp turn of foot getting the jockey out of trouble. Due a rise for his previous win, but can't see much more of a rise for today.
Hat trick on the cards, probably on a sharp track.

Re-running the St James’s Palace to see how Mighty Ulysses ran (very well) I thought the really unlucky horse was Maljoom who wasn’t quickly away and was at the back. He tried to come up the rail, but couldn’t find a way through and couldn’t get a run until it was too late. He finished like a rocket, though, and may well have won what turned out be be a close finish.

Looked mightily impressive, traveling smoothly (not pulling) completely windshielded in the peloton. He did non of the work upfront. The winner pulled like the proverbial Trojan throughout and did very well to hang on in a virtual 6f sprint....

Bay Bridge - Eclipse (5/I currrently)
Only beaten by the joke pace yesterday, and it's a miilion against it happening again at Sndown.

Britannia - Saga. Gosden's almost throwaway remark today the it should have won had me hunting down the replay and I have to say he is right. The replay I saw doesn't show how slowly into stride it was but Frankie had to stop riding for a few strides just as he was trying find a gap two out. After that the horse flew like Inspiral and was in front a couple of strides after the line.

The world and his dog will be aware of it next time but it definitely should have won. While I like to look for 'winners without a penalty' I have to say this one looks like a loser with a penalty. It will go up at least 5lbs for this but hasn't won. Might not stop it, mind.

Two that caught my eye today were

TENEBRISM nowhere near the winner but wasnt given an all out R.Moore finish.

TIPPY TOES 610. I backed this just before the off and it never got any sort of luck in running.once in the clear it started to fly and finished 12th.
Off 98 it can win a hcap.

Hebrides Chester last Saturday - lost at the start when knocked off balance and out of the box seat, but finished very strongly.

An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after the start involving the winner EVOCATIVE SPARK (IRE), ridden by Pat Cosgrave, HEBRIDES (IRE), placed second, ridden by Franny Norton and GIEWONT (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by John Egan. Egan was cautioned for careless riding as he had edged left-handed towards the rail without being fully clear of the two runners on his inside, before ultimately correcting his mount which resulted in EVOCATIVE SPARK (IRE) being hampered and making slight contact with HEBRIDES (IRE) which became unbalanced.

Maruco put up a good winner in Soulcombe today who hosed up.

It looked to me like it will take something special to stop him following up so I'll be watching and waiting.

HMS Seahorse.
Former Ballydoyle inmate hosed up off 82 at The Curragh Sunday.
Ratings up 19 to 101 for future handicaps so Ebor and Irish Cesarewitch on the agenda.
More interesting is his 128 Hurdles rating which has to be a gift ; already Boodles Hurdle and Gr1 placed he just needs more luck getting a run in rather than winning a decent hurdle .
