MIDNIGHTREFERENDUM

Exeter 26 February 2021
Join Racing TV Now Mares' Chase (Listed Race) (GBB Race)
3m, Class 1, £14,860
Going: Soft

Alan King was looking forward to the smart Midnightreferendum’s first run over 3 miles and he thought the step up would bring improvement in her. It was not to be.
She came to the head of things four out and looked all over the winner coming down the straight. Still two or three lengths clear over the last she emptied of petrol very quickly and the first two got past late on. Nonetheless it was a strong performance and I’m sure Alan King will find the right opening for her.

Post #250 Aaron’s Day runs tomorrow 5:0 Naas, early price 2/1 (down from 6/1 already)

ADJALI

Ludlow 4 March 2021
James Henman Memorial Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (GBB Race)
2m4f, Class 3, £7,212.78
Going: Good To Soft

This was Adjali’s second run after wind surgery and he’s been doing much better. Here, he ran a close second throughout, except briefly in lead, until being left in lead 5 out which probably wasn’t the plan. He still held a narrow lead over the last and he battled hard to keep it up the run in, but was headed close to the line. It was a good run and I reckon he’ll get there soon.

DONNIE BRASCO

Newcastle 9 March 2021
QuinnBet Live Casino Handicap Chase (Qualifier For The Northern Lights Staying Chase Series)
2m7½f, Class 4, £4,288.68
Going: Good To Soft

Donnie Brasco was brought down at the first when a horse fell directly in front of him, he had no chance. Why am I noting it then? Well, unless it’s my vivid imagination (always likely), I think he was on a mission. Kim Bailey sent him all the way to Newcastle - his only runner - with David Bass trundling all the way there, too, for this single ride. He’d been 11/1 early price and started at 13/2 having touched 6/1. We’ll never know, but I should think he’ll be out again soon assuming he’s ok after the fall and I think I’ll take an interest.
