Novice Hurdlers 2012-13

The two novices I've been really taken with so far this year are Coneygree & Kashmir Peak. Coneygree is an absolute tool who digs so deep to keep pulling out more - there were slight worries Mattie might've gone off a bit quick & would be reeled in but every time a horse came near him he pulled away. He'll be some beast over fences.

Kashmir Peak is a quality beast also. He's just the type John Quinn does so well with ' is another who just seems to keep finding more. He's an ideal type for the Triumph & must go well in it.

Because it will almost certainly be the race Busty Brown goes for at the Festival whereas Pont Alexandre has the more likely option of the Neptune. He'll have to stop jumping to his right if he's to be a realistic contender in that race though.

Really?

In terms of ability Pont Alexandre is light years ahead of Busty Brown. I wouldn't be interested in Busty Brown at any price. As for Pont Alexandre at this stage the Albert Bartlett would seem by far the most likely target. Yesterday, he made all the running on a stiff track and didn't look like stopping. Clearly they will want to avoid a clash with Champagne Fever. Much more likely that Champagne Fever will step up from 2m to 2m4f than 2m to 3m. You are right about the horse jumping to the right but I don't think it was desperate and it would be less telling in the longer less competitive race. The 10/1 Albert Bartlett price is much more appealing than the shorter prices for the Neptune.

Dont forget the ground yesterday was bottomless; Ruby said that Cheltenham Sat was "good Compared to Navan".
Pont Al may not be same tool come quicker ground.

Doubtful they will find out before the Festival but the way he handled the ground just makes the Albert Bartlett more likely.

Pont Alexandre won his maiden hurdle at Cholet on Good-to-Soft. Might be hasty to write him off as a mudlark on the strength of the Navan run.

Nice looking Maiden at Newbury tomorrow with Snake Eyes, Poet and Fair Trade all entered. I hadn't realised Poet was switching codes, must have missed that news, I can't make my mind up whether I think he'll take to it or not. Should be interesting anyway and at least the going won't be an excuse for him.

Strong word that he's well regarded and has matured from last year - would be easy to disregard him on basis of form there but Dessie generally knows what he's doing with a good one. Trip could be short given he's won over 2 and a quarter the last day but they weren't getting home today and at 8/1 I'd fancy him to be in the first three. I really like Jessie's horse though. This is a seriously hot renewal.

Jezki a serious animal - interesting comment from Ted Walsh that Barry Geraghty reckoned it was best novice he'd sat on in England or Ireland

Bright New Dawn ran keen for the first half mile and I'll still be keeping on the right side of him.

Holding tight to my ante post L15 where I have him @16's for the supreme.

Saying that I backed sweet wake @ 14's a few years back.heres dreaming:D

Jezki and Waaheb are the two I've backed for the Supreme so that went about as well as I could have hoped for. Waaheb would have been a lot closer had he not badly blundered just as he was being asked to deliver his challenge he'll learn from that and I think the 20/1 now available is an over reaction. The top Irish novices look a better bunch than the English ones to me, looking forward to seeing Un Atout out again too.
