With no payoff until November and Irish flat racing likely to be back next month this is one for the die hards.
 
First UK Graded race (I think) of the season today with the Persian War at Chepstow & just a shame there’s only 7 going as would be perfect for backing a couple EW against the fav

Mcfabulous is being talked up as a Stayers Hurdle horse and is rightly favourite but couldn’t touch him at odds on. The two I like are Everglow for the Hobbs’s and Getaround for Ella Pickard

Everglow’s a bit of a guess up as he’s only run in two bumpers, but the stable has won it with similar types before. Getaround’s from a much smaller stable which will help his price, is a strong stayer and will be match fit today

The 16.25 is also interesting with Soaring Glory (very smart bumper form, but can you trust Jonjo with an odds-on shot…) and Bravemansgame who cost £370K & has 6/7 lengths to make up on the fav from last year. Should be interesting

And finally, tomorrow at Fairyhouse we get to see Champion Bumper 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] Queens Brook who’s obv going to be very hard to beat if taking to hurdles

Bravmansgame looked very inexperienced and will surely improve bundles but so will Soaring Glory who was given a cool ride by Jonjo junior. A pair of above standard horses I reckon

Yes, agree with that. MCFABULOUS was particularly impressive I thought, oozed superiority throughout and won as he liked. They went a fair old gallop as well.
 
Mcfabulous won't be a novice come the end of the month though, impressive nevertheless. Get the feeling he may be ground dependent.
 
It's not something I normally associate with Elliott, but even a couple of his higher profile winners (Queens Brook, Eskylane) have sort of fallen in, so wouldn’t be surprised if his novices improve significantly on their 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] starts
 
I'd agree with Ben. i think some of Gordon's have looked to need their first run. It could also be a sign of which ones of his potential Grade 1 horses he's got lined up for the end of season Festival handicaps by not wanting to show his hand.

So far five of the field (3[SUP]rd[/SUP] Queens Brook, 5[SUP]th[/SUP] Eskylane, 10[SUP]th[/SUP] One True King, 13th Ask A Honey Bee and 22[SUP]nd[/SUP] Linelee king) have already won a maiden or novice hurdle. The others to have run and have done so respectably including a couple of flat wins. It’s not always the case, but looking strong so far

The 4[SUP]th[/SUP] Third Time Lucki goes in the first at Uttoxeter and whilst not backable, should carry on the trend
 
For me, there's an enormous hole in last season's bumper form because of the cancellation of the spring festivals, particularly Punchestown.
 
Hi archie. I’ve thought about this quite a bit and yes, agree the curtailed season will impact the hurdlers this year, but think that will be more the strength and field sizes of early season races. The quality (or not) of the festival bumper will probably still be relevant as trainers on both sides of the Irish Sea were still aiming their best ones at it, as Covid wasn’t much of a thing then

Aye, it may not have been the greatest challenge in the world, but he really looked the part throughout and he had that “I’m full of power” aura about him which he unleashed at the end when Skelton set him off by nothing more than a tap on the neck and a shaking of the reins.

I wouldn't say an enormous hole as March still happened but what it will mean is there will be horses running in maiden hurdles shortly that will be under the radar greatly and probably plenty who will be kept to bumper route this season too for the early part
 
He's certainly an enthusiast and it would be no harm to see him have a few more winners this season.
