Novice Hurdlers 22/23

Paul Nolans winner yesterday at Punchestown was a very taking horse. Look forward to seeing him out soon again and nice for that stable to have a good horse again in the Joncol colours

Will Barry Connell keep the wheels on Marine Nationale?

I recall forum member Wilson mentioned this horse a few months ago as one to follow.

I think Wilson also rates the prospects of Champ Kiely this season though so I'd be interested to see what he thinks if they both clash against each other on Sunday.

I don't usually get involved in the markets for the Novices until this time of year unless something jumps out at me like Hiddenvalley Lake did the other week and perusing them it seems the Supreme is between Jet Powered and Facile Vega and the potato race who knows at this stage despite my interest in HVL. The Ballymore betting though is interesting and there is an angle in as the front three are opposable:

Facile Vega heads it but goes for the shorter race on the Tuesday
Gaelic Warrior is second in but was all over the shop in the Boodles last year, surely must go right handed.
Grangeclare West won a nothing race and I always feel the Cheveley Park horses get a couple of points knocked off their price.

Inthepocket and Impaire et Passe are the interesting ones. Both won at Naas earlier in the month in contests where hurdles were omitted - the former beat Three Card Brag and Absolute Notions (whose form was franked yesterday by Deep Cave) and the latter zoomed clear in a maiden hurdle, finished really strong. I like Inthepocket the most. Henry also has Arctic Bresil but he looks more one for the novice chases next year bet wise.

For some time now I’ve been all over Lisnagar Fortune for the Albert Bartlett at 33/1 & 25/1. He’ll have to be good to concede the penalty to the costly HdB horse Kap D’attente who won his sole PTP impressively in the 1:05 Tramore but I’m very hopeful.

With Jet Powered proving anything but over the past week (though I think the ground had a lot to do with that) Hendo doesn’t have any obvious candidates for the Supreme and aside from the favourite, who himself didn’t look exceptional the last day, it looks an open festival opener.

Will they stick to the mares novices route with Luccia if she wins a Tolworth ?. I’d be surprised.

The owner was hinting strongly towards the Supreme in the RP today, depending on Saturday of course, sorry on phone so can't copy.
