Novice Hurdlers 22/23

Gaelic Warrior could be going for the Supreme now especially after FV bombing out. I am sorry that High Definition made that mistake by stumbling. I would have liked to have seen him put in a clear round as I still think he’s an interesting contender.

For all the Mullins talk

Barry Connell has 2 lovely novice hurdlers and two Grade 1 winners this season

He never sat on a horse until he was 30

Hope for me yet

High definition didnt beat facile even without a jockey.i like to see a riderless horse finish first to show he loves it.

The winner Il Etait Temps is being somewhat ignored as people look through the rubble of the race.

Even if you take FV and HD out, he’s still convincingly beaten two undefeated novices, and he did it in some style. The way he travelled and finished the race suggested a strongly-run 2m on a stiff track will suit him even better, and I think he is the one to beat in the Supreme.

He is a second season novice and I am not enamoured with these horses running in novice events

I couldn't accurately predict his level after yesterday but would like to think there wil be one to two better

In an ideal world Marine have would have been out again but for this, we must wait until the Supreme

Juvenile last season, and may just be a later-maturing type than some of the others.

On a line through Ashroe Diamond, he would be around the same level as Marine Nationale, but he has self-evidently improved again from that run behind Facile Vega at Christmas. Like I say, I think he is being under-estimated, for reasons which may not actually hold any water.

I have him ante-post in various multiples covering the Supreme, the Ballymore, the Coral Cup and the County - though the handicaps are probably non-starters now.

The Supreme is the right race for him though. He has never been a yard further than 2m1f, and I reckon he would make too much use of himself at the slower pace they go in the Ballymore. He wants carted along off a strong gallop, I think.

My position is in no way influenced by some sexy prices for the 2-mile novice, no siree, nope.

Was there any reports that Facile Vega burst?

He stopped pretty quickly and perhaps it was due to Townend thinking of Willie's words over the juvenile race

If FV were a doubt, it wouldn't surprose me to see GW drop back in trip

Pretty sure its Riccis racing manager on Twitter, has said Gaelics performance was Supreme. Then said interpret Supreme as you wish

Obviously Willie will decide but Id be odds on Supreme.

Dont think Facile will go, they’ll find something and put him away for Punchestown or next year.

I like the Munir horse for the Ballymore

Wherever Gaelic goes, be placed on his inside

Young Michael O'sullivan looks like some jockey on what he has done so far

Re Il Etait Temps, I dare say the application of a hood (think this is quite unusual for Willie?) has probably improved him from his juvenile season, too.

Willies said today Ballymore for Gaelic. be a better race for him.

I like thr Munir horse, if Faciles crocked though, can see him in Supreme. Willie wont just gave Il Etatit Temps as hisnknly dart that..

Irish handicapper has only nudged Il Etait Temps up 4lbs for his win. Now on 148 (looks very lenient to me), so maybe a handicap at Cheltenham might be back in play - though probably gets minimum 153 from UK handicapper.

Hermes Allen’s win in the Challow franked again today, with You Wear It Well winning a G2 Mares Hurdle at Sandown, beating an Elliott mare. There have been a good five subsequent winners from that Challow.

Right or wrong, I'll be taking a stand against that Challow form.

I'm not convinced the subsequent performances of those in-behind winners are necessarily the boost to Hermes Allen that many are implying, as they've been coming in relatively weak-looking races (personal view).

I'm not entirely sure where I'll land with this race yet, but the Irish record (13 of the last 20 winners, and 8 of the last 10) tells me their novice hurdle form is generally stronger overall. Also, Nicholls has an appalling record in the race, with only Denman and Rock On Ruby placing in the last twenty years.

Given all that, Hermes Allen strikes me as one to take-on at 11/4 - though I've no doubt he'll make a smashing novice chaser next year.

Now you listen up, Grassy, I am totally invested and committed to the wonderful Hermes Allen. I will not have a word said against him, or his form crabbed. He will win the Ballymore - and just as importantly, I will win the prize for the highest-scoring ‘Dark Horse’ in the TTF!
