Odd One Out

Here goes ....

Elizabeth David
Jancis Robinson
Tamasin Day-Lewis
Jane Grigson
Three are icons of food and wine writing - Tamasin day lewis is an insufferable old bat with far too long hair for her age - broomstick required !

About the butterflies: well, the Brimstone is the only one of the four to sit with its wings closed, the others all perch with them open. On the other hand, the Comma has jagged wing edges, the others are smooth. Or, the Brimstone is a single-colour butterfly, while the other three are multi-coloured... or... :what:

On the four female food and drink experts, one is dead: Elizabeth David. The others are alive, or certainly well preserved!

Wrong. Someone else can have a go now. :)

The anwser.

The Brimstone is the odd one out because the other butterflies all hibernate through winter and the Brimstone cannot.

It dies, like most butterflies at the end of summer/ autumn . Only the odd few can hibernate.

I must add that on some websites the Brimstone is down as being a hibernating butterfly, but this is indeed extremely rare and according to my ' bible ' hardly ever happens because they cannot stand the cold.

Jane Grigson is dead - it is her daugher, Sophie, who writes and appears on telly and so on now ...

According to wikipedia which is always right unless edited by Swirly...

"Found in Europe, Asia, and even north Africa, it is one of the longest lived butterflies, living up to thirteen months, although most of this time is spent in hibernation."

I don't go by the internet, I was going by my books. If that is the case then all my books must be wrong!

Can we move on to another odd one out, or lets finish it here.
