Dazzling duel with Panto Prince that day DG.
Watched the race at Leopardstown where Redundant Pal won Ladbroke Hurdle at 20/1 having tipped him to all and sundry after getting a lift to races one day with the late Paul Magee. Booked my trip to Sandown to see Dessie on the strength of that Ascot win.
Happy days !

Thanks DG but that one deserves more than a one liner.

Having flirted with it for a couple of years this was probably the one race that initiated my love of NH racing and would still sit in my top 3 races of all time.

Panto Prince was no mug and for Dessie to give him 22lb was an incredible feat, especially the nature of it when he fought back after looking beat. This was to be his final run before the famous Gold Cup and was a great supporting act in the horse's finest ever season.

What a pity that this race is no longer a handicap as it has thrown up some of the great races; Dessie v Panto Prince (rec 22lb), Nordance Prince (rec 24lb) v Flagship Uberallas and Isio (rec 19lb) v Azertyioup.
