On this day in 1995, Willsford, ridden by Peter Niven and trained by Jenny Pitman, landed the Tote Eider Chase at Newcastle.
 
On this day in 1967 Hill House won the Schweppes and Schhhh you know what happened!
Disqualification loomed until a 171 day inquiry found the horse produced high cortisone levels.Ryan Price reckoned his legal fees were 10K.
The horse never won again!

On this day in 1983, Gaye Brief gave away lumps of weight at Nottingham in warming up for what would be Champion Hurdle glory at Cheltenham.

On this day in 1999, King George VI Chase winner Teeton Mill followed up in the Ascot Chase as he beat Senor El Betrutti by four lengths.

The City Trial Hurdle was a limited handicap won a few years later by Royal Gait who also went on to win at Cheltenham.Is it me or has the number of meaningful Champion Hurdle trials decreased over the years.

Appropriately enough " I Gotta Horse!" Raz Prince Monolulu died on this day in 1965.
His headdress is often seen in old racing footage. A feature of big race meetings the Listowel Race Committee brought him over for the Harvest Festival in 1957 and 58 where he fitted in well with The Wren Boys! As we say "aithnionn ciarog ciarog eile ".

I remember seeing Price Monolulu at Hurst park for Christsake, not that I am a flat man. How old am I? . Also remember all the Ryan Price and Josh Gifford touches in the Schweppes, brilliant days. Incidentally does anyone else agree the effervescence has gone out of Schweppes tonic? Why is this

On this day in 1991 Cool Ground won the Jim Ford Chase at Wincanton. Later that year he was fourth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup before winning it in 1992.

On this day in 1990, Desert Orchid brilliantly won what is now known as the Racing Plus Chase at Kempton.
 
In 1973 Miss Aureole Sinclair the 1st woman to hold a training license trained Brantridge Farmer to win the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell, horse followed up the next year for Fulke Walwyn, a great front running hurdler and later Chaser.:)
