Prix Ganay...

The Irish Champion is the closest thing to a 10f Arc.

Followed by the Juddmonte.

Thankfully they're sorting out the Champions Stakes.

Usually only a handful of runners in the Irish race and the Juddmonte is at the wrong time of year to be a comparable race.

I would say there is no equivalent of the Arc.

Royal Ascot might yet succeed in creating one for the sprinters, but no other race in Europe at any other distance comes anywhere near to being equivalent to the Arc.

Fair enough, although I think you're slightly missing the point we're not talking Arc equivalent (the King George is our closest version of that), but a 10 furlong race that could be to 10 furlongs what the Arc is to 12 furlongs, as postulated by Euronymous.

Yes. An end of season championship event, which the Newmarket version of the Champion Stakes never really was because so many horses missed it.

It always sort of has been for me. I hope it will be for you too now that they've beefed up the prize money and moved it. I liked it as it was though.

Your question to Euronymous contained the suggestion that the Champion Stakes has already been such a race. I don't think I've been missing the point.

As I say it's the closest to it at 10 furlongs imo. Can you come up with another that is closer? Bar's had a go, but I can't really have those. The Champion Stakes is surely at least the best candidate.

There's no point even trying.

The Arc is a season long target for the best horses in Europe with a chance of being effective over 12f and they all turn up if fit, along with one or two from more exotic shores. There is no other race like it.

The Irish Champion Stakes was for a time the best 10f race in Europe, that time being when the French were still willing to travel for it and the Newmarket race was losing out to both the Arc and the Breeders Cup. Maybe the Champion Stakes will return to the top of the 10f podium but it's hard to imagine it becoming another Arc.
