Punchestown

Golden Ace odds against to finish in the First 3 is a decent bet in my book.

So sad to see CH go out like a light.

Also quite disappointed that State Man could only beat arguably the worst champion hurdler I can remember by only four or five lengths despite being driven for some way. That must be 10lbs off his best form.

I didn't have any financial involvement in the race but I feel like going and drowning my sorrows.

I thought CH briefly looked like he was going to refuse to race and also ballooned one early on.Maybe he has an undiagnosed problem.
Loved the way Golden Ace battled to finish second.

Yes to all this

SM jumped very well but was always within himself

I think front running is the only option left with CH

Having champion hurdlers jump mini fences is probably not a great sign either

Mare probably ran her best ever race

Terrible shame that Lossiemouth was not there

I think CH has a problem. For him to job like that at the start was uncharacteristic. Funnily enough my mother was banging on about how much he was changing legs in the Champion Hurdle on the way to the start and during the race which I hadn't spotted as I never saw it close up. She may well be right.

Its always sad when our heros fade out like this.

I make no claim to be a judge of these things, but I thought Constitution Hill looked a tiny bit tubby yesterday, and that his coat was not great. Not bad, but not great, certainly when compared with State Man’s appearance. I hadn’t intended to have a bet but changed my mind at this point.

I was also struck, like Jinny and Luke, by his edging away from the starter and the rest of the field just before they came under orders.

His jumping got slicker as the race went on but he took off a shade early at one down the back. The big problem however was he had no extra gear when the race developed. Or was it that he had no wish to produce one?

Time will tell, I suppose.
