Raven's Pass

Not a great deal left, good ride from the winning jockey. The 2nd is a very smart horse though and you only need to look how far the pair pulled clear.

I agree, if he raced like that or handier against Henry earlier in the season he would have been beaten further. Do not think they will ride him like this or near as handy next time.

But a good ride for today to get the win under his belt.

good ride but not much in hand

I think 7f is better for him, the Challenge or La Foret in teresting , he is something of a 122 or 123 horse.

I disagree and certainly hope they ride him in similar fashion. If not making it, but at least tracking the leader. Previous tactics have hardly proved that successful in beating Henrythenavigator so they may as well try something different. Don't think it is that it is easy to assess what was left in the tank considering Fortune seemed fully aware he had the race in the bag over 2f out.

Yes he basically done what I thought Bankable would do to him. I would say he is a similar horse held up or handy. The fact was today he done Bankable a good horse in his own right for a turn of foot. Bankable was eating into that lead at the end, and the ground him alone makes up in the final furlong (except counting last 20yds) is impressive, as Raven's Pass was not stopping (the distance between front two to 3rd, was widening by the stride). I wish there was a 9f big race as for me that is Bankable's trip. Sadly the Cambridgeshire will see him have too much weight and the ground won't be soft. I do think in the QE11 if soft, Bankable could turn that form around, remember he gave Rave's Pass 6lb there, plus a head start.

if it came up soft, Paco Boy would be right in the mix and Ravens probably wouldnt run anyway

Hated the ground but won nicely enough. Not keen on him for the QE11 now though, that could have taken the edge off him.

Strikes me as the kind of horse that Godolphin would like to buy.Maybe they could improve him as much as they have improved Dandy Man.

Agreed Gal ~ interesting interview with Ryan Moore after he won last weekend. He kept reiterating that the horse was a seven furlong specialist when pressed about his chances of stepping up to G1 company at a mile. Hannon has tried to turn enough 7f horses into milers to know when he's wrong too.

Well if Ryan says that then fair enough, but he will get a mile i am sure. Hardly stopping at Newbury was he? Seems bred for it too.

As for Ravens, I totally agree with DJ.

It looks like the Bankable bubble has burst after he was unable to beat a listed class filly at Goodwood today in perfect conditions; he's a very decent horse, but he seems unable to take up the position his jockeys would prefer, and although he again launched a strong challenge, it rather petered out and he's beginning to look limited at Group level. He certainly won't be winning the QEII.

Tremendous tactical ride from Queally on the winner stacking them up a long way out.I watched the race through gritted teeth having recommended the winner to my brother but deciding against an investment myself -I did the same with Kasbah Bliss later on -very frustrating.
Bankable has been a layers dream this season.

Personally I don't think Bankable gets 10f, especially on ground that testing.

I hope he comes back in the Earl Of Sefton next season, the race is made for him.

That's possibly right Chris, but he doesn't seem to have the gears for the big mile races, especially with him now tending to look a little sluggish in the early stages. It would be a terrible pity if he turned out to be a nine furlong specialist! I'd have thought he would have plenty more opportunities if he was sent to race in the States next season.

Do you get soft ground in the states, I agree 9f is his trip. They really messed up after the Hunt Cup, not aiming him at the Cambridgeshire. The Earl Of Sefton will be his race next season, but what after that.

Think the handicapper forced them out of the Cambridgeshire to be honest. His mark was put up to 113 after his Goodwood win and to 117 after Newbury. There's plenty of Group 1 winners I wouldn't fancy in the Cambridgeshire off the latter mark. Hardly short of options for the race either are they, it looks an obvious target in particular for Swop.
