Road to the 2013 World Hurdle

I've 16's on GMOOH, albeit in a hefty lucky 15. Looking at the prices now that looks like my best anti-post bet at the meeting. Apparantly Jonjo has been eyeing this race for a very long time, and hence I think he'll go off shorter than the current 11/1 with William Hills.

After finishing 2nd three times in three different races at this meeting (Supreme Hurdle, County Hurdle and Coral Cup), if any horse deserves to win it is him. Also finished 2nd four times at Cheltenham in total I believe. Thats discounting the Tote Trophy he would have won had the late Darlan not brought him to his knees at Newbury. Been quite an unlucky horse all in all, deserves a change of luck.

The best horse in the race is not favourite. That means it's time to steam in.

Come on Nicky baby, lets break that Festival cherry.

Ladbrokes World Hurdle Grade 1 (4yo+) 3m
Steer clear of 5yos (only one left in, no 5yo has won this although decent ones have tried). 6, 7, 8 and 9yos are all capable of winning. The Long Walk and Cleeve Hurdles are key guides. Oppose those who race prominently. Oscar Whisky looks classy, but is a 2½ mile specialist. Aintree could be his thing again at his optimum trip. I hope Oscar can win but Reve De Sivola looks the logical choice.

Selections:
1) Reve De Sivola 2) Oscar Whisky 3) So Young 4) Bog Warrior

Dont give GMOOH a chance SteveM?

On his best form he’d have a chance of showing up (although even on that he’s 10lb short of the main contenders here). But more than 50 lengths behind Oscar Whisky the time before last and pulled up last time. I’ve had to let him go.

Yeah I suppose SteveM. It's a pity the soft ground didn't remain, I'd be having the biggest ew bet of my life on Bog Warrior.

Interesting race. Very open. I was shouting So Youngs chances from the rooftops last year so I'll be pretty sick if he were to fulfill his potential and win this year.

I'm happy to keep the faith with Solwhit. Has the beating of this lot on the best of his form, and Carberry a great booking given the slight stamina questions.

Hopeful rather than expectant.

World Hurdle 3.20 (11-10)
Celestial Halo 168t
Oscar Whisky 167o (+)
Reve De Sivola 166o
Bog Warrior 164?
Zaidpour 164?
Get Me Out Of Here 163
Smad Place 163p?
So Young 159t
Oscara Dara 154o
Peddlers Cross 160o

With Quevega bodyswerving the race, Celestial Halo might be of interest back at this trip – 50/1 is grossly insulting to one so talented – but this is a race I’ve never really been keen on, other than seeing how easily Big Buck’s might win. Smad Place hasn’t run that well in two outings this season but he struck me as going places this time last year and if they can get him here at the top of his game he might be the answer but I really would love to see Oscar Whisky win.

I took a chance with Zaidpour and So Young ante-post - both at 3 figure prices but I fancy Zaidpour more of the two over this distance. I can't understand why he's over twice the price of Bog Warrior when he gave that horse 4lb in the Galmoy Hurdle and was only btn 3 1/4L on heavy, surely Zaidpour comes out of the race the better horse. 4lb over 3m on heavy is a lot of weight to give away.
Zaidpour bt Monksland 2 1/2L in The Hatton Grace off level weights
Zaidpour was btn by Monksland 2 1/2L in the Christmas Hurdle carrying 2Lb more - So Young in 3rd carrying 4lb less than Zaidpour.
L/T/O Zaidpour was btn 6L by So Young giving that horse 5lb over an inadequate trip of 2m.

Zaidpour has been to two Cheltenhams - 2011 in Al Ferofs Supreme win and lasts years C.H. and wasn't disgraced in either both over inadequate trips imo. He has had 20 races with eight x 1st and eight x 2nd - When he's raced over 2 1/2m to 3m his form figures are; latest first - 2-2-1-5-2-1-1-1-1

I'd give So Young a good squeak. If Reve doesn't fire and Oscar doesn't stay he'd not be far away.
