Road to the 2013 World Hurdle

I was almost tempted to have a go at Celestial Halo e.w. for old time's sake, just thought it was a big price... fair play to connections of Solwhit to bring him back to this level.

F&ck.
F&ck.
F&ck.

I had Tofino Bay at 89/1 on Tuesday.
Berties Dream at 40s today.
Celestial Halo there.

F&ck.

Strangely enough I backed the beast place only @16.0, but was saying the same up the run in, think I'd missed a 65.0 winner.

What is your point? You should back e/w.
I'm not making any point in particular. Just cursing my luck.

Tofino Bay was 90 at Betfair a few nights back (Sunday, maybe?). I don't know if there was a place-only market with Bf at that point but it was only 10/1 elsewhere. It was a punt in case it ran. I happen to think it would have won if the other had stood up as I reckon it just idled out on its own.

I did back Berties Dream ew.

And I backed Celestial Halo ew.

So what's your f&ckin point other than displaying your propensity for being an @rse?

To be fair your original post didn't suggest you backed any of them each way and the swearing indicated you may have done your nuts. I'd be quite pleased with that run of placed horses.

At least your reply is polite. There was a definite dig (as usual) in Hamm's remark in keeping with previous form.

I'll let EC1 tell you what I backed in the 4.40 (each-way) lest I be accused of aftertiming...

You backed big priced horses e/w and got a decent return. None of them were unlucky losers. You got decent place payouts which is usually the aim when backing these kind of horses, so all is well.

I am sure you will aftertime backing the winners as well, so when you consider that, you've probably made a fortune on every single race?

Well I can aftertime on here - cos it turns out that the bit of fun combination forecast on the world hurdle involved Celestial Halo, Solwit and So Young... 60p has gained me over £30 :D
(and I had £1 e/w on Solwit, but dont ask me why I did, think i just felt like it)

now why cant I do that on the odd occasion i put more on??!!!

As much as I loved seeing two old stagers in Solwhit and Celestial Halo fight out the finish I thought Charles Byrne's confidence that he would have beaten Big Buck's was laugh out loud moment of the week .

I thought Celestial Halo was going to win tbh and felt heart sorry for the horse but what a training performance by both trainers to get 2 would be has-been's back to something like their very best. Was a joy to watch.

You'd have to think Big Buck's would have added yet another win to his tally but I think laughing at Charles Byrne is a wee bit over the top. We are talking about a horse who ran Hurricane Fly to a hard fought neck and he's one of the very few who has beaten him. Celestial Halo won the Triumph and was beat inches in the Champion Hurdle and his recent win at Newbury giving everything 20lbs and more pretty much proves that on his day he's retained a lot of his talent.

When you look back at what Big Bucks has beaten in the race Voler La Vedette, Grands Crus, Time For Rupert and Punchestowns I'd say Solwhit is by far the best of them and by some way. When he and Voler La Vedette met a couple of year back he treated her with total contempt. He also beat her when they finished behind Hurricane fly so the guy has every right to think Solwhit would have given Big Buck's a fair bit more to think about than she did.

Poor enough but a seventh Grade 1 for Solwhit though.

Great run from Celestial Halo too.

Well done GH.

Thank you, CL. So chuffed for Solwhit - one of my all-time faves, and wholly under-rated (imo).

PS. Great run from Halo. I rate it 159 (public joke between me and EC :D). Seriously though, CH has proven me wrong over the last 18 months. He looks as genuine and game now as he's ever done.
