Road To The Triumph Hurdle

I haven't been this impressed by a 4yo since Scolardy....

Joking aside. He looks destined for the top table. Shaping up like a few nice challengers to the champion from the Supreme and the Triumph. And most importantly, OC has saved my wallet. I was very impressed by his trial win, and for once my eyes didn't deceive me.

I won't even be considering any of the runners from the Champion Hurdle next season the 3 novices from the Supreme plus Our Conor and The New One all look exceptional.

he gave that a good ride Hamm

Competent but come on, he had around a stone in hand!

Many of the other riders would have given their horses much more noteworthy rides, especially David Casey. People always overrate the jockey by how good the horse underneath him is.

aye..he's a lucky lad getting 3 cheltenham winners

The answer is zero.

It doesn't stink at all. I fancy the Henderson duo and will back accordingly, and would be much happier if Cooper up rather than McCoy. What does Cooper know about winning a Championship race? Nada. Yes, he's riding very well, but having McCoy up is definitely the right decision from where I am sitting and a positive for SDC.

Totally agree with that. The difference between the top jockeys is a fair bit less than many think IMO

But this time 12 months we'll be told again that the Irish horses have been picking up soft races....

why always the paranoid digs? Every year...

There was a piece in RP recently about the number of odds on races run in ireland this year. How its become a bore for punters and bookmakers.

Very exciting horse though. Next year will be a whole new picture in the hurdling division i believe and a really fascinating one at that

I agree with you Clivex. The praise for Irish novices on here has been across the board.

I was massively against Pont Alexandre as his price was all hype from running in races alien to Cheltenham. I thought the reverse was true for Champagne Fever and thought he was excellent.

I haven't seen any negative comments.

The way that thing won today he should be giving Hurricane Fly weight. There's always the chance he loved the ground, while the rest hated it and he was flattered but the time and the style of his win would suggest he's the real deal.

If you take him out of the race Far West would have been an impressive winner and he'd have been 10's or less for years Champion Hurdle. My first thoughts are Golden Cygent if this horses progresses he could be that good.

However I doubt if they will be in a hurry to take on Hurricane Fly. Surely they will want to give him all the chance in the world to improve and put him away until next year?

Prob run at Punchestown I'd imagine. Won't leave juvenile company

Funny that he should do so well he was recently put forward as the most likely future champion by Davy Russel who knows a bit about the game.

Top trainers are top trainers because they buy and train the best possible horses money can buy they also employ the best jockey's that they can lay their hands on. Ruby rides for not one of the best trainers in the game but two so either he's everything they say he is or we got two very stupid trainers out there.

Nicky Henderson's has done it all and seen it all so what did he do when Fitz retired he got the best around to take his place.

McCoy Walsh and Geraghty never got where they are today riding great horses from day 1 they came up through the ranks like they all have to do.

You can argue Ruby is a Walsh he was born into it but so are man other jockeys but they aren't employed by Mullins and Nichols.

Occasionally jockey get praise they perhaps don't deserve but this wasn't one of them.............how do you think Cooper would have done on the horse our Jane fell off? He would at least looked where he was going

Good jockeys and good rides win races others wouldn't. Anyone who thinks different is off the mark IMHO.

Agree entirely . Find it hard to believe Champagne Fever would have beaten MTOY on Tuesday but for such a pitch perfect ride.

the time angle re Our Conor and the county hurdle was trashed imo..the rain really got into that ground even in just 35 minutes

but..there was a reaaly good guide to Our Conor and Champagne Fever when they ran at Leopardstown

the fastest race for class that day was the 2m2f race won by Summer Star..a race where the 1st, 3rd + 4th have come out since and franked that form
2m2f
Summer Star = 4m 28.80s (slow by 15.80s)
Champagne Fever = 4m 22.90s (slow by 9.90s)

Summer Star can be rated about a 108 horse...minus mares allowance =101...... as has won off that mark since..she carried 10.1..

CF carried 11.10 and ran 5.9 seconds faster..which makes Champagne Fever about a 163 horse

Our Conor won the 2 mile race in 9.9 seconds slower than standard..corrected for distance makes him 8lb slower than CF +10 less carried = 145 + 7lb wfa = 152

that looks more likely than Our Conor giving weight and 5 second beating to Ted Veale

I'm not saying OC hasn't improved since then of course:)..but they are decent ratings before they even ran at Cheltenham for both horses

not surprised..and if i'd done the above calculations when those races were run i'd have backed both at Cheltenham with those figures

And if you'd stuck them up on here in advance I might have followed you in. Get your act together in future.
