Running tomorrow in the Queen Mary, but rather than hijack that thread, i have decided to start this one.

First things first, im not trying to blacken any trainer or jocks name, merely bemused by something about this horse, maybe the information i have is wrong. Bear with me....

This horse was sold on 09th April 2009 for £21,000. On the 29th of May, the horse bolted up in a maiden, producing quotes courtesy of the racing post like these from connections;

"We knew she was good as on the gallops she went past Total Impact, who is an 82 rated sprinter. Richard thinks she is the best filly he has ever trained and said that if she didn't win today, he would give up training. She will now go straight to Royal Ascot for the Queen Mary - Vikey Fahey, trainer's representative; "

"The ground is quick out there and she loved it. She is a real class act, something special, and she won like it - Tony Hamilton"

Now, heres my point....if i sold a horse of her potential for that money 7 weeks prior to her producing a performance like that, i would be asking serious questions of myself or whoever had advised me to sell!! Is it possible that the horse had shown so little that they let it go so easily? Or am i missing something completely!! Tomorrows race, for which i strongly fancy here, is worth 51k to the winner alone.

All my info is from the racingpost website, im just intrigued is all!!

I am not so concernd about her beating the track record in what was very quick ground but the fact she breezed past Total Impact at home and that is something very special

Interesting, how many horses do Highclere have with Fahey too?

She's been backed off the boards for this for the past week and she's evidently had talent for a while. Wasn't that sale in April the Doncaster breeze ups too? Does smell a bit fishy.

It pre-supposes that the seller didn't need the money? No idea myself, but in these days of credit crunch there's alot of people out there who aren't quite so well off as they looked a few years ago?

I just cant believe that the horse went for so little when held in such regard!!

Id gladly give them 22k for her now....turn a quick profit.

I also think Rose Diamond might be worthy of another chance at a big price in the 1mile handicap...

She ran in John Staunton's colours when winninger maiden, Highclere have subsequently purchased a share in her and I'm pretty sure it;s the first horse they've had with Richard.

It is - don't think that JS needs the money either so they must have offered a few bob (probably come out of the coffers from selling Collection last year).

Personally fancy Jealous Again and have done for some time - she's the only filly in the race with graded stakes form and has won on a fast dirt track so should love a firm turf surface. One doubt I do have is that she was past quite quickly last time out and is very much a point and blast kind of ride, stall 1 should be no problem at all given how far STT came over yesterday and her and her stablemate are beating him on the gallops.

Shame the bookies are now bricking it about the Ward horses and from reading elsewhere even Pricewise put her up.

I was always given to understand that even a 'fast' dirt track would be slower than a good to frim turf track due to the 'resistance to sheer'?

She might have been beaten by Aegean but the evidence seems to suggest that she's pretty sepcial too. They worked on turf at Keenland and he then took them to River Downs for a public work out on what he believed would be turf more closely resembling Ascot. It sounds like he's brought over those that showed something on turf, and it isn't quite the punt into the unknown that Aidan O'Brien sometimes looks to be considering when deciding whether to prep a horse at Southwell.

They're supposed to have run 34.80 over 3F's, which would be pretty good I'd have thought for 2yo fillies after allowing for a bit dwell time between starting and getting up to speed. Aegean was supposed to have got her head slightly in front by the end, but there was little in it.

I'd have thought coming 2nd in an American grade 3 at kentucky is stronger form than winning a listed race at Beverley to be honest, or an Auction race at Hamilton, and I'm sure Iv'e read somewhere that the trainer is something of a 2yo specialist with a 38% S/R.

She ran 58.45 at Chuchill Downs on a dirt track which wouldn't necessarily suggest she was being assisted given that Hot Dixie Chick (had to get that name in) broke the record there on Saturday with 56.48.

58.45 would be 0.01 secs faster than the 2yo track at Doncaster set by Fleeting Spirit in the Flying Childers where she earned an OR of 109. I'm struggling to believe that if both are flat tracks, then Good to Firm at Town Moor isn't faster than dirt? Now admittedly there's a not inconsiderable issue to do with 7Ibs to legislate for, but against that, this time was run last month when the filly would have less race course experience and not be as strong in the maturation process than Fleeting Spirit would be in September.

She was the beaten fav in that grade 3 having previously won by 11L's against colts at Keenland, but Aegean has probably beaten her on merit. I reckon that a low draw might have had something like a 1L advantage yesterday and although she might be vulnerable to a fast closer, as American horses tend to be well stalled trained, and can normally be relied on to jump and run, its difficult to believe she won't make the frame. She looks likely to be there to be shot at, but I wouldn't have thought the field are going to swallow her up even if one of them does succeed in overhauling her, and if something like Don't Tell Mary is going to grab her with a late run she's going to have to do it from a high draw and come across.

I'm just left wondering if we aren't necessarily comparing like with like and the American 2yo's are better prepared, and whether we've got a slightly uneven match up in the juvenile division that punters haven't quite latched on to yet. If she wins today, I don't know what that would do for Aegean later on

She was a Breeze Up horse, was lot 2 at DBS Breeze Up, she went through auction and made 21k. She would have been prepped for the Breeze Ups, its not a case of owners selling her not knowing or anyone training Del Boy, its a case of that's what the stud who paid 2k for her as a foal decided to do. She went through unsold as a yearling for 6.5k, so keeping her an extra 7 months and breezing her and letting her go for 21k may have seemed good business to them. Good eyes of Bobby O'Ryan only having to go to 21k for her I say.

Here is her breeze video back in April

Highclere reportedly paid 500k for her after her first start. having paid 21k for her, any owner in their right mind would accept.

She won't beat the American horse though, not a hope in hell. It's absolute lightning. I saw her work on the racecourse two weeks ago and she blew her two companions away, one which runs in the Albany. In a gallop since she trounced yesterday's Windsor Castle winner. This filly looks seriously quick and it could all be over by the quarter pole.

Good post Warbs and Chris. I wasnt aware that Highclere had bought her after her first run, a nice return for the owner who had previously payed 21k for her!! Worse investments!! I take it that my offer of 22k for her is not going to be accepted...quite upsetting.

Comedy return on investment there.

Will Highclere keep her with Fahey? He's a bit rough and ready for them isn't he?!

Jealous Again, currently 10/1?

Between her and the gelding at 7/1 that SL and UG are convinced about in the Jersey, I think a small Talking Horses Certainty (tm) double might be on the cards...

I had a small place bet on the American winner yesterday at 10s on betfair so think I'll play up the few bob on the filly today. Just think they really hit the gates running and are hardy types, bit like the australian sprinters.

Who entered Overdose in a 2yo fillies race?

Half of America will be over next year.

Nice one btw Flame, had her in a single too.

Irish Stamp will be the UK's most desirable bachelor after backing both US winners so far.

That was brilliant!! Had a nice win single on her....if the other horse thats yet to run is better, then it will be short indeed!! That performance reeked of Overdose!

Aegean is not better than her, she works behind her but she's smart.

That said Yogaroo wouldn't be a million miles off Strike The Tiger.

They have one for the July Stakes at Newmarket however which scary to say is better than the lot.
