Royal Ascot 2017

Copied from AP thread.

Barney Roy in the SJP at 3s and as a second part of a win double with Ribchester (Lockinge)

Dream Castle in the Jersey at 8s. Couldn't understand this price after the Guineas as they went this route with Ribchester last year after his run at Newmarket and they have others for the SJP and Commonwealth. He's shortened noticeably since they acquired Harry Angel.

Next Stage in the Hunt Cup at 20s. Ran a fine race the last day but 9f extends him. This race is made for him.

Harry Angel in the Commonwealth at 9/2 and 7/2. Backed him before he became a boy in blue. This horse will trade close to evens IR to my mind and I'm loading up with a view to a trade during the race.

I'll back this on your say-so Euro, as I want to have two in the race.

I'm looking to select one or two races at the meeting to try and get lucky. I'm not wasting time trying to solve every race.

Is Dermot Weld bringing anything good over? He's got previous!

Weld has nothing this year. His 3yo crop are useless.

SKY NRNB on the Group 1 races. The French horse in the King's Stand is 8/1 - huge value with this concession.

The Britannia isn't normally a betting race for me but I was seriously impressed by Afaak at Doncaster on Saturday, Showed excellent application to come through like he did on soft ground after being a tad keen early on
No reason why better ground won't suit him, One to look out for.

That would be Signs of Blessing, a serious racehorse.
A very good concession. You are basically insuring yourself against injury as he is committed for the race.

Danzeno - A value price in the Anti-Post betting for The Wokingham.

He was third at Ascot on Champions Day back in 2015, in a valuable 350K sprint.
Looks as though the handicapper has reacted favourably, dropping him half a stone in the weights, for a couple of poor runs towards the end of last season, and his seasonal pipe-opener over the wrong distance of seven furlongs last month. The switch from Group races, to prestigious handicap, with the simultaneous drop in the weights, is drawing me towards him.

Wokingham Handicap - Danzeno 33/1 Each Way. Ladbrokes & Hills.

Britannia Stakes
Son Of The Stars 9/1 (Paddy Power)

Only one firm up and they've made an absolute bollocks of it. If this gets in off 89 then it can't be bigger than 9/2. It's completely unexposed and was being touted as Hannon's Guineas horse during the winter. Reports are that it's working well with Barney Roy. I've had a good go at 9/1 win only to give myself leverage on the day.

Purely on form, 9/1 SOTS is a bit skinny this far out. It should probably be 20/1+.

It seems a lot of store is already being set by those homework reports but if they're accurate then 9/1 could look generous.

Has anyone seen the entries? When I checked last night it looked like they weren't out but maybe that's just because my RP sub has expired. There were 'no entries' for SOTS in his file.

Based on the above posts, including my own, the horses I've decided to back so far are as follows...

Jersey - Dream Castle
Royal Hunt Cup - Sea Wolf e/w, Next Stage, e/w
Britannia - Afaak e/w, Son Of The Stars
Royal Hunt Cup - Danzeno e/w.

I've added Lightning Spear ew in the Queen Anne. The likely ground next week will suit and I can't get away from his run in the QEII last year where he was on the wrong part of the track here and wasn't far off Ribchester on the line.

Not pulled the trigger on anything aside from Next Stage in the handicaps yet but will back Middle Kingdom if he runs in the King George V. I took this horse off my tracker after Johnnie G's comments after his win at the Craven Meeting as he was talking Dante/Derby but he never went that route. Hopefully he'll run.
