Royal Ascot 2017

That fifth horse, Mr Scarlet, was exactly the same distance behind the winner as he was at Naas. Would be a nice type for the Bunbury Cup.

Sectionals apparently indicate Harry went too fast early on. That and the uphill finish suggests he will be better on a flatter track and maybe over 5f.

Just killing time while patiently waiting for Mrs O to get herself sorted for going out...

About the Commonwealth Cup:

I had a look at the result to see what kind of figures we were looking at for the principals and recalled Matt Chapman opining that the handicapper couldn't put them up since they'd run close to their respective relative ORs.

He's got a point although I don't imagine the handicapper will take the same view.

It would be interesting to know what kind of figure he had in mind for the American horse who finished fourth and the fifth was rated just 100. Caravaggio, OR 119, gave the latter a 19lbs beating. Blue Point, OR 116, gave him a 15lbs beating.

Interesting.

To me anyway!

The handicapper has left Harry Angel and Blue Point alone, which is interesting in itself.

My time ratings point to the race being nothing special on the bare result but I do believe the front three are all better than the bare form as my limited reading of the sectionals leads me to conclude they went faster than Simon Rowlands is implying.

I've upgraded the race by 3lbs but suspect the first three are better again. I also think Caravaggio would be a better miler than Churchill but everything points to Barney Roy being potentially a wee bit special.

I think the King's Stand form is moderate and that Marsha was well below her best.

It wouldn't really be saying much to rate it the best this century. It's maybe the best this century on my figures too (would need to check) but it's moderate compared with the best of the 6f best.

Danzeno - A value price in the Anti-Post betting for The Wokingham.

He was third at Ascot on Champions Day back in 2015, in a valuable 350K sprint.
Looks as though the handicapper has reacted favourably, dropping him half a stone in the weights, for a couple of poor runs towards the end of last season, and his seasonal pipe-opener over the wrong distance of seven furlongs last month. The switch from Group races, to prestigious handicap, with the simultaneous drop in the weights, is drawing me towards him.

Wokingham Handicap - Danzeno 33/1 Each Way. Ladbrokes & Hills.
