Whereas the opening day, for me, is all about how great our sport is and contains races that don't have great betting shapes but will be brilliant spectacles day 2 is where the punting action is at.

In the Hunt Cup I've been taking nice prices about Eton Forever for a week or two. The form of his win at Donny in April has worked out really well. Bit disappointed about the draw but we don't know how that will play on softer ground than normal (although of course it is a track that dries super fast)

The bet of the day though has got to be in the Windsor Forest. This seems a race to me where the bookies have priced it looking at the numbers to the left of the horse's name rather than the actual form. Music Show is the best of these over a mile yet is actually priced at 8/1 in places. Her win in the Matron might be the best form available and she was only 3L behind Goldikova in the D'Astarte the time before that. She's fully exposed of course but surely she can be forgiven her runs this year against the Colts at Sandown and over 10f at York - not that they were bad efforts by any means. Of her rivals Sajjhaa is surely a filly who wants a longer trip and Seta and I'm a Dreamer have been winning soft races.

I have to say I was massively taken with i'm a dreamer FTO this season. Wasn't a great field but certainly no mugs and she laughed at them. She's my bet of the day on the Wednesday. Music Show doesn't look like she will progress to me. Too small. Take your point about her form but I couldn't back her at 12's let alone 8's even though she might place.

Can we zip right on to Friday, when I'll be there with a couple of chumettes? We need nice chunky e/w types, not skinnies where we need to invest our life savings to win back ten quid.

Forte Dei Marmi in the Wolferton. Back in handicaps after a couple of half decent runs in conditions events. The Coronation looks a train wreck of a race this year.

Trainer Comments;

"MUSIC SHOW is pleasing me at the moment and she is a quality filly that was knocking on the door last year and eventually won her group one in July at Newmarket. I don’t think it worked sending her over ten furlongs at York last time when she was fourth to Midday and back to a mile should suit her. I was disappointed at York but I am happy with her and she’s worked well. And she handles any ground but the faster they’ll go the better chance she’ll have. You need to be able to ride a race on her."

Cheers, Euro - I can sound almost as if I know what I'm doing, then! I couldn't sort out anything from the Corrie line-up, tbh - I figure one of the chums will go with a 'nice name' and the other with a fave trainer. I'm just thinking of a sharp pin.

The form of her falmouth stakes win might not have been that great but she did it in great style. A good pointer from euro

Always liked the filly too. Will look harder at this later

Right, Euro, I shall be promoting Forte to the 'girls' and that's your tickets to Lingfield cancelled if she fails to place! I know, a crushing blow to bear...

Sajjhaa and Seta have always been criminally overrated so that was my main motivation for taking a look at the race. Music Show's form was given a little boost today with Cityscape's run in the Queen Anne. I was a tad dismissive of I'm a Dreamer and having watched the race at Newmarket (which did go her way slightly) think she is worthy of covering with.

Any of you ratings chaps got anything of note on the Queen Mary?

I normally do ratings for 2yo fillies, but lost the will to live a bit earlier this year and have got behind with the number crunching.

On paper and video Dozy looks a gutsy sort, Kohala seems to have a little more improvement in her and Shumoos was impressive against Frederick Engels, who won today.

Wes Ward says Gypsy Robin is better than Jealous Again. If you watch her race back at Keeneland, it's unbelievable. She absolutely batters them and goes off at a furious pace. I'm not sure the others will be able to go with her to be honest.

The Fav has to be taken on at the prices.

Any of the Irish contingent have a view on the Bolger filly? She looks the most interesting runner aside from the American.

I also really like Winter's Night in the last and I've had a lumpy bet for me at the 13/2 this evening. Her course form is very very strong and she ran a nice race at Haydock last time out and she's well away on my speed figures, I'd have her in as favourite.

At bigger prices, Emma's Gift loves Ascot and 33/1 is far too big and I rate the Theysken's Theory form quite highly and therefore have to also chance Wrekin Sunset at the same price who looks unexposed and may have a lot more improvement in her.

I had the same view but couldn't come to any firm conclusions. I was a tad worried that Music Show might have gone off the boil slightly this year and fillies have been known to regress at 4. I will probably play First City very small EW who ran a nice race last week at Epsom I thought, 33s looks a touch big.

8:46am
Word from the clerk
Following an early inspection of the track, clerk of thecourse Chris Stickels said: "We've had no rain overnight and the ground is drying.
"The new GoingStick readings are 9.4 on the stands' side, 10 in the centre of the course and 9.5 on the far side, which are higher than Tuesday and reflect the drying ground.
"I'm expecting rain today, with light showers forecast for this afternoon."
Asked if he thought there was a track bias, Stickels added: "You have to draw your own conclusions but in my opinion it's very even and I don't think there's a bias.

Planteur to cause somewhat of an upset today - his two wins this year have been visually very impressive - 4/1 is a fair price seeing as I have him backed ante-post at 7/2:mad:

As mentioned Shumoos is an all in bet at anything bigger than evens and Andy Oliver thinks that Super Say is a group horse so 16/1 might be a fair ew poke in the Hunt Cup.:ninja:

Clive Cox is meant to be sweet on Winter's Night chances I have read. Asked by Claire Balding of how he rated her chance in the Sandringham, he replied somtheing along the lines of "she wins". I for one thnk this is an e/w steal in this race.

The Bolger filly is seen very much as no. 2 to Teolane so may not be good enough. Might have a saver on the Yank.

I like Strong Suit in the Jersey always a sucker for course form and hopefully the breathing operation and a bit of cut in the ground will sort him out. He has the best form in the race imo.

I have him in a reverse forecast with the favourite, but I was assuming the ground will be fast and that that is what he needs.
