Any thoughts?

It's a race I've always liked and I've been having a scan through the runners.

On early viewing, I think that Enrilo and Kitty's Light look interesting. As for the latter, he's only a 6yo and it would be very unusual for young so young to win the race.

I just had to check and it’s correct. How in gods name is Kittys Light only 6. Feel like he’s been round years. Sitting at the back coming late.

Must have been open chasing at 4 surely without looking.

It will be interesting to see if MIGHTY THUNDER runs or whether it goes in the Grand national.
I've heard hes been lightning in its work since a breathing cop.and likely to storm home.
There will be a big clap here if he does

A/p I've done
Domaine de l'isle 40/1 and I will do hill sixteen if it runs as I thought Empirr steel would have run in it but she took it out of the race at kelso which hill sixteen almost won for her.
With it being before the GN this year makes a decision wait a bit.

YesDJ kittys does seem to have been around years and has to be considered.

Yes, he was. First chase in Aug '20, aged four, which he won off 109. Ended the season an unlucky [promoted to] second in the Whitbread off 139.

Race is expected to cut up a lot. Two intended runners with chances:

Kitty's Light
Major Dundee

I'm disappointed to see Empire Steel running in the next at Kelso. I was thinking that they might have given the SGN a go

I'm a bit worried about Domaine de l'isle. It's in future races for it on racing tv but on sporting life and bha it isnt down for future races.

Win My Wings 14/1 for me. He brings a really nice profile to the race.

If I knew he was running I'd also be very interested in Court Master 33/1 on decent ground.

I've been having another study and I've noticed that DDL's racing style is to be held up, often out the back and this is a worry for me. This race often suits those who race more handily. With a big field and the configuration of the course, tracking the leaders is the place to be. It's also a concern for Kitty's. If you look at the Whitbread again, he was way, way out the back but that hill enabled him to stay on late. At Ayr, there's no such hill to bring them back so with that style of running and his young age, I'm thinking that the current price just doesn't represent any value at all.

The key to the race is how much it could cut up. Knowing one is running now is massive. I've added The Ferry Master 20/1.

Because she didn't enter Empire steel I was looking at Hill sixteen and The ferry master.

And because HS and TFM are 9yo's & her grandfather won it a few times with 7 & 8 year olds it was ES's mast that I would have nailed my colours to. Now it's back to the drawing board again

Stormy Judge is an interesting potential runner.

He won a couple of decent handicap chases end of last season in Ireland. On one day he beat Enjoy D'allen and School Boy Hours with Foxy Jack's further down the field.

He's been hardly seen since then: last run was a decent fifth which we might deem as a pipeopener. The only thing is all his form is on soft or heavy ground.

He is entered in this and at Fairyhouse in the Irish National but I am quietly confident he might act on better ground as why enter him in these two nationals expecting soft or heavy ground, it doesn't make sense. .

I will wait to see his position at tomorrow's confirmation stage.

RP Analysis:

Stormy Judge faded after looking likely to take a hand in the finish when improving to throw down a challenge at the second-last. His effort was short-lived.

I've taken Cool Mix at 40/1.

I had to resist the temptation to wait until tomorrow's declaration stage, probably the sensible thing to do, but just reckoned if the field does cut up a fair bit his price might have shortened a good bit.

I presume he's an intended runner and he was a wee bit unlucky last year, losing his place mid-race before staying on late. He's 6lbs lower now.

He's some way out of the handicap at the moment but if a few of the top weights come out he might be okay, especially if the race cuts up a good bit. Personally I don't expect it to but if he's balloted out I'll get my money back.

If he stays out of the weights a good claimer could minimise the disadvantage a fair bit.

He will come on a ton for the run though, Slim.

I am judging him on his best efforts last season. Those two wins when he stayed on well each time looking like he'd get further.

I'm not passing comment, just posting the analysis.

The studying continues...

as far as pace goes, I would expect Yala Enki to try to make it. If Bristol De Mai runs (surely not on good ground?), too. The Wolf is another who has made all and won before.

In fact, the latter would enter calculations as far as I'm concerned. He's well in with Fortescue, who trades at 20's, and he looks tempting at the current 14's. I like that One More Fleurie won at this meeting last year on good ground, when he beat Mac Tottie, a horse I would've fancied if they'd run him in this race. A concern might be the ground. I think he prefers the good but the Ayr clerk of the course has stated that they water in order that the ground rides g/sft throughout the meeting.

Enrilo is still very much on my radar at the moment.

Just a quick update, there.

Win my wings blue across the board 10s best now and Marbs stormy blue as well.
Wmw does look good I must admit.

It's going to be interesting to see if the top weights stay in.if they both come out the weights go up 10lb and it becomes I different race.

Enrillo does look good at the moment.

I've mentioned before, Paul Nicholls usually targets this race quite seriously and gets very involved in the closing stages if one of his horses is still involved.

I actually found it quite refreshing witnessing that emotion first hand.
