Can someone tell me why Lee Westwood is such a big price for this..surely he must be a top 3 finisher

AP looks a lay at evens i would have thought..i couldn't back him at that price when not once in its histrory has a racing person won it

I'm not up on the golf Euro..is he now the world number one?

I saw him on C4 racing some time ago..very nice chap..not that that makes any difference like

i was just surprised at his odds ..thought i had spotted a rick :)

AP has to be a lay..even Piggott didn't win it..or Frankie

no one has heard of him where i work..except 2 people who follow racing..thats 2 from about 100 people

It's a sorry world we live in. I bet they've all heard of the no mark who won X Factor.

SPOTY used to be a big deal when there was nothing else on. It's time has passed.

It'll put a lot of people off voting, as its on the day and the costs are a premium rate phone call......................why aren't other ways acceptable????? i.e. email nominations ?:(

I really like Lee Westwood, again probably after seeing the ch4 interview [perhaps racing has shot itself in the foot by showing that].

I am so sick to death of this! Not content with every ATR show being infested with VOTE FOR AP, Matt Chapman's every second remark today bangs on about it and how you can't vote for it any other way than by phoning the BBC - "not even people in Southern Ireland", and none of this being enough, the ROA and Racing For Change have both sent e-mails badgering racing fans to cast their vote for him.

Frankly, while he did achieve 3000 wins and he did win the Grand Nasty this year, and well done to him for that, I'm more tilted towards the youngsters who did something for Great Britain, rather than for themselves. Let's face it, he didn't ride 'for racing' - he rides because that's his job, which he does extraordinarily well. But make no mistake - he wasn't riding for a wider glory.

I'm sure everyone who's benefitted from AP's wins won't agree, but none of it's been done 'for sport', Gearoid. It's been done for a riding fee and a percentage of prize money won, it's been done to make a personal record and to break a personal hoodoo (the GN). All fabulous stuff, but I don't see what's 'sporting' when professional jockeys, professional golfers, professional this or that line up against people representing their country.

But each to their own. It's not an event I feel is particularly relevant, when the protagonists usually receive enough awards and rewards within their own sphere. It's rather like lining up 10 favourite foods and declaring one is the best, when all are excellent in their own right. Is a sherry trifle 'better' than a rump steak? Personally, I'd like one after the other, I like 'em both, but the SPOTY competition chucks in kids with oldsters, pros with non-pros, not-for-profit sporting prowess with some done very much for not just profit but fees. It's a dog's breakfast and, imvvho, of no particular importance.

Even a 'Lifetime Achievement Award', ffs! What's that about? If I've won a particular event or series of events when I'm a pro, why do I need another award to say I've done so? I can understand 'Salesman of the Year' because that's based on a quantifiable result. I can't see how Beckham's 'lifetime achievement' is 'better' than, say, McCoy's - other than Becks's 'ambassadorial' work outside the UK with young kids. Then why not 'Best Ambassador for Sport'? Sorry, my mind's hurting - I must go and rest.

i think all what you say highlights that it is now outdated..back when it started in the 60's it had more relevance..nowadays..probably not

they're only introduced AP as Grand National winning jockey which really under plays him a lot. No mention o record breaking number of winners, multiple champions etc.

Well if you've just seen the 'opening ceremony' cheers were certainly limited for AP and if you were just listening to the BBC no mention of how many times AP as won the championship just that he's won the GN!

I'd love to see AP win it but I reckon McDowell will win.

When you think of the year McDowell has had any other year he would be 1/3. The betting books are created by people who are iin the main nto racing which is not the case for people picking up the phone. I'm vey much a layer at 1.66.

Tom Daley - top three @ 7.0 betfair looks great value.

2 gold medals, beat the Olympic champion and his father has the big C - cynical as it sounds it certainly touched my heartstrings so have voted for him and A.P. and backed T.D. top 3.

Did I see Graham Lee in the audience? I have no intention of voting for McCoy for various reasons, but if Graham Lee wanted me to vote for him I might change my mind. [If Tony McCoy was Graham Lee I'd vote for him, if that makes sense]. Thought the speech made by the guy who does the charity work was one of the best I've ever heard.
