Summer Has Arrived!

Because you're small, weak, and feeble, and because we're big, strong, and very, very nasty. Do you have another question for us?

Sorry, just playing with my new skills... hope you don't mind! B)

This was Barney in Cornwall in April this year!

Dearest wee Barney, admiring the lovely sunset. You must never let me meet him, Kathy, because I fear I won't be able to resist a bit of dog-napping. Miz Julie kept her eyes on me all the time with her darling Molly, so I know she will never be mine - but Barney is extremely portable, and could easily fit into my coat pocket... B)

He is looking forward to meeting you Krizon. Are you allowed to dog sit next time we visit Brighton? :D

You betcha! We'll have lots of fun on the beach, I'll buy him an ice-cream, take him for a ride on the helter-skelter on the Pier, out to Devil's Dyke for a romp among the bunnies... he will never want to go home with you, never, never never! :D

Excellent, but just remember, this is the dog's fun day out, so no squabbling over who had the most fries, or who got the biggest beach ball, okay?

Speaking of great views, I went down to the Solent this evening to watch the battle of Trafalgar re-enactment, excellent display of fireworks with lightning and thunder in the distance, very good to watch

I invited my Mother in to watch it on BBC News 24. What a load of crap! The 're-enactment' was pathetic - or at least, the coverage of it was. Once again, loads of talk-talk-talk all over the whole thing (will presenters NEVER SHUT UP?), no close-ups of cannons being loaded, all the tv crews seemingly recruited from RTE, and because of the endlessly didactic presenters, the biff-bang-boom of the fight was completely muted. The newswoman competed against the public commentary system, and I thought the whole thing was dreadful. And as for the fireworks display being better than the Olympics... per-lease! Nothing tonight seemed to compete in terms of wit and finesse with either Oz or Athens - although there was plenty of quantity.

Overall, an amateurish-looking end to what was probably an interesting day. Or maybe you really did have to be there to enjoy it.

I'm really quite surprised that there doesn't seem to be much made of the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar out here. The battle took place not far off the Gib coast & Nelson's body was brought ashore in Gibraltar to be transported back to England. Gib is very big on it's history & there are many place names containing Trafalgar or Nelson. They love an excuse for a bit of a hooley out here too - myself & a colleague were discussing how bizarre it is that nothing appears to be made of it here. Then again, as he pointed out, the Spanish did lose so after the furore caused by the tercentenary celebrations here last year the powers that be may have decided it was a better idea not to antagonise Spain further!

Perhaps they are waiting for October 21st?

I still don't know why that re-enactment took place yesterday.

Aha - sounds more like it. Cheers Brian!

Your reasoning sounds about right to me Brian about the weather - in staging a re-enactment of the battle on sea they'd want to be pretty much assured of calm waters, I guess.
