Tall bad!

Latest 'research' shows that tall people are more likely to develop cancer.

More cells so more chance of there being cancer cells, allegedly.

This is small consolation for my darling 4' 10 1/2" wife who recently had to have a mastectomy.

Terribly sorry to hear that grim news, Colin. I hope Mrs P is on the mend after that trauma.

This sounds like cod research to me. You might as well say that very fat people, regardless of height, are more prone to cancer since an obese 5-footer would be likely to have 'more cells' than a very lean 6-footer. I thought it was down primarily to genetics, often diet, and exposure to carcinogens like, say, Agent Orange, radioactive materials, and many chemicals. There are thousands of Vietnamese who are not just short but also lightly-built who are suffering a variety of cancers solely due to the bombardment of their country by the US's use of 'Orange', a known carcinogen, which also went on to create cancers in their own troops - not that they wanted to acknowledge that, since it would've meant huge compensatory pay-outs.

She is on the mend, Kri.

Thanks to the breast-screening programme they spotted it early and she only had the one cancer cell in her lymph nodes. She has now finished her chemo (six doses) and is waiting for a scan before she has a year of treatment on Herceptin.

The 'research' is probably just a statistical one and they are trying to come up with a reason for the results. Obesity was also mentioned in the same context.

Thank God they found the lymphatic cell, or things could've got one helluva lot worse. All good wishes to your missus, Colin, for a full recovery after the gruelling year ahead. Bastid disease. There's never a month, it seems, that I don't hear of someone connected to someone I know who's got it or died from it.
