If I may be so bold as to start off such a thread.

MAGIC CITY, a son of Elusive City, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Richard Hughes won, on his racecourse debut, the first at Newbury this afternoon by six lengths.

He has been made the early favourite for the Coventry at Royal Ascot.

That should make the market for TOUGH AS NAILS, lads!;)

The time looks stunning at first glance, glad David Barker owns it too, he deserves a good horse after all he's been through.

Incidently, why isn't this thread called "Road to the Dewhurst"? :D

I'm looking for the Road to 2011 Two Year-Olds - can anyone help?

Gamla, pardon my ignorance, but what has David Barker been through?

He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009, Kri.

Magic City well and truly broke the clock yesterday. Ladbrokes go 6/1 for the Coventry. It sounds very short but it's only the possibility that the horse might go for the Norfolk instead that stops me taking that price. Corals have always been first to offer Coventry ante-post odds but they've gone 16s Canford Cliffs and 8s Strong Suit in the last two years and it's perhaps understandable in the circumstances that they're not quoting Magic City.

Very impressive but you did get the feeling that Richard Hughes did not think he was a Canford Cliffs or a Strong Suit .

Thanks, gus. That's a horrible affliction - never sure if people recover from it, even with treatments.

Indeed, he had to quit training himself because of it. He had some nice speedballs when he trained though.

So, has he now recovered, Gamla, and possibly going to return to training? Nice indeed that he's had a winner as an owner, though - that's got to perk you up.

Was at Jessica Harringtons open day today where I met the honourable sages Grey and Cantoris. She had just received a batch of special two year olds from Florida - a very taking bunch you would have to say. Will post a proper summary of the visit later in the week. Probably learned more from Grey and Cantoris than Mrs Harrington.....

Last I heard, he was "on the mend" but not heard anything other than that to be honest. Doubt he'll be returning to training, believe he sold his yard, was certainly advertised for sale anyway.

I suspect they ran Magic City too soon after such a big effort. Wouldn't be writing him off just yet/ One of the most visually impressive juveniles I've seen was Sweet Chilli at Pontefract yesterday. Could see her going well in the Hilary Needler.

Not a bad time though yesterday and Hughes said he had no excuses - could be a very decent filly that beat him.

Sweet Chilli was impressive. A massive compliment to Ponty Acclaim and Beau Vista who beat her so easily at Ripon. Two to follow. Beau Vista is expected to run very well in the Lily Agnes at Chester on Wednesday.

Everyday Dave was very impresive in France yesterday. I guess he will go for the norfolk next. He blew a couple of lenghts at the start and he looks still very green, but he can run!

All 3 Wes Ward runners from France at the weekend looked very good. They have exceptional speed.

Two nice performances in the last week or so:

COMMISSAR (P.Cole) Newmarket on Sunday; broke well, always in command ran on to win by five lengths, in a decent time as well.

GABRIAL (R.Fahey) yesterday at Chester; making his racecourse debut missed the break but made up ground to go between horses a furlong out and ran on to win by 2 1/2 lengths. A useful first appearance in the circumstances.

Royal Ascot may be on the cards for both.

MAYBE (wasn't this one of the names we didn't like) by GALILEO out of SUMORA (useful filly/mare trained by Gerard Butler) by DANEHILL wins the first at Naas by 4 1/2 lengths on debut.

A nice start by a nicely bred filly.
