The 2025 Cesarewitch (Handicap)

Since 2000, shortest price runner 4.0 in 2005, shortest price winner 2022 Run For Oscar (IRE) 5.0
Run For Oscar was available at bigger 🤣 Good story on that one — Charles Byrnes booked David Egan without even asking him. Egan’s agent rang the yard to check if it was a mistake. Charles just said, ‘Does he want to ride a winner or not?’

I'm going by pure isp

I've seen a lot of these "well in" types go down the pipe over the years and im not usually on them or a fan of such types. The Ces itself is the sort of race that scares you from saying things like certainty and there's always a chance you could get heavy ground in which case the form book can be turned on its head. But given a half decent surface and judged on his prominent running style and his performance at Doncaster I find it difficult to believe anything can beat it off 97 and a 3yo allowance. That said I'm not going to be wading in with a huge bet antepost. Ive had a few quid on already but I might try and buy some cheap money running onto him with some each way doubles with a few I fancy for Ayr but I'll wait for the day with those. I quite fancy Jubilee walk if he sneaks in at the bottom for the cup.

So then the question is will Pendragon go off shorter ?

Robbie Wiilder’s write up in RP’s On The Nose will likely dent the price

“One thing which struck me about the St Leger meeting was how well the three-year-old Pendragon ran in the face of a stiff task against higher-rated stayers in the Doncaster Cup.
Off the back of such a strong effort, he should be much shorter than the standout 8-1 available for next month’s Cesarewitch at Newmarket on October 11.
We won’t be getting that sort of juice on the day and he has a near-perfect profile for this major handicap, a race nailed on to be his next target.
Tackling slower ground for the first time at Doncaster, Pendragon moved powerfully into proceedings after racing keenly early doors and managed to hit an in-running low of 2-1 before being swallowed up by old favourite Sweet William.
The Doncaster Cup was the winner’s major aim for the season and he had the ideal set-up as the pace was strong and the leaders came back to him.
Pendragon was always up with that fierce gallop and didn’t give up the ghost the way the other prominent racers did when holding on for second, showing a commendable attitude while the other pace-setters, Sunway and Oxford Comma, finished tailed off.
He ran to a Racing Post Rating of 115 in the Doncaster Cup, just 4lb shy of the figures awarded to Scandinavia and Rahiebb in the following day’s St Leger, and superior to those handed to dual Derby winner (Lambourn) plus winners of the Queen's Vase (Carmers), Geoffrey Freer (Furthur) and Melrose (Tarriance), who were in behind.
The St Leger was a proper race and, in a parallel universe where geldings could contest the final Classic of the season, Pendragon wouldn’t have been simply making up the numbers.
With his stamina for such an extreme test like the Cesarewitch proven on Town Moor, Pendragon looks chucked in returned to a handicap off a mark of 97, despite the start of his winning sequence in June beginning off a BHA rating of just 69.
The classy son of Camelot is a typical Sir Mark Prescott three-year-old improver and the trainer wouldn’t have had such a big shout of finally breaking his Cesarewitch duck in years. “

I don't know if Hobbits is rubbing off on me but I feel like I need to put up a bit of disclaimer after your tongue in cheek praise.

In all seriousness I couldnt think of any worse individual to follow than myself, a complete useless lump of a man these days, im either working or im intoxicated and as for horses I wouldn't know my arse from my elbow and haven't done for a number of years now.

That said Christmas has been officially moved to October the 11th this year.

Unleash the dragon!

I'm not having this for one second - I've got Danny down as a man all right-minded folk should be following over a cliff.

This is not a recommendation, I am just sharing my own opinion, not suggesting anyone else act on it.

cough cough we'll not mention the huge trifecta just this weekend gone eh???

The question being did you get enough of it to retire?
Even me at my tightest can't retire on a grand.

Hubert stays longer than Walsworth on the loo lately and Hubert's Flat mark compared to his Jumps mark is hilarious.

It's still so low I'm wondering if he will even get into the race.

Prescott dropping heavy hints, that the dragon isn't turning up.
If Prescott doesn't run "The Dragon" in "the Ces," I sincerely hope they pursue a Cup campaign with him, he's just outside the frame every run and never earns another penny in prize money.

I also hope all Prescott's children and grand children become vegans and vote for Jeremy Corbyn.

6 of the last 7 winners coming over from Ireland

Mordor for Gordon Elliot is interesting over this sort of distance. He finished best of the rest against Kyle Of Lochalsh who is a solid enough horse or yardstick in staying events. Oxford Comma was third there with a previous Cesarewitch placer Bashful Boy in fourth. I think that was a good run.

Mordor's win earlier this year when beating Robbies Rock was franked nicely with that horse winning at the Curragh easily next time out.

Mordor's a French bred and given the run on soft ground at Goodwood he obviously handles cut in the ground, in fact he might even turn out to be a bit better on it.

I'm keeping a watching brief on confirmations and ground conditions for this. I fancied him for the staying handicap at Royal Ascot where he was taken out at confirmation stage if my memory serves. Maybe the ground would have been too firm for him there.

Calling Ian, (a bit like what they say about Donald Trump, you can take this seriously, but not literally).

There were 24 runners in this contest last year, but 31 runners the year before.

Henceforth, what is the maximum amount of runners that can run in this race this year please, (no, I can't see myself).

Thankyou in advance.
