The 2025 Eclipse Stakes

Fav probably needs the strong pace he had at Ascot
According to Thady G, the quick turnaround was a planned part of his schedule way back,so is unlikely to threaten his chance

It wasn't a criticism of you, Maurice, and at no point did I say that my approach is always proved right, hence contrasting approaches of others are always wrong.

And there are times when I agree with Turftrax.

But they shouldn't be regarded as gospel, there are also times when I don't agree with their scale at a track and, more often than not, that works to my advantage.

I wouldn't put the time I do into private research if that weren't the case.

For anyone who might be interested in this particular small piece in the overall betting jigsaw, the following is all in the public domain at the BHA website....

Weather
2mm rain last Friday morning. Dry and hot since. 32 degrees Monday with ET of 4.2mm. 34 degrees Tuesday with ET of 3.8mm. Cooler from Wednesday with a chance of light rain, showers during Wednesday (1mm to midday) Dry thereafter with temperatures in the mid 20s.

Watering: Irrigation ongoing for two weeks with 7.5mm cycles on all week days. No irrigation over the weekend. 5mm applied to both courses Monday. 3mm applied Tuesday pm to Round Course. No irrigation Wednesday until extent of rain known.

Last post on this (and apologies to those who already knew, or really didn't want to know 😂) "ET" is a BHA acronym I cut and pasted.

It doesn't stand for Extra Terrestrial 😂 but it does stand for "evapotranspiration."

Those unfamiliar with Google should familiarise themselves with it for a definition.

In summary, sounds to me like Cooper has been watering to maintain the going rather than change it until yesterday when he decided to stop watering until he thinks he's got a handle on how much rain there is likely to be on Saturday.

Other interpretations of all this are no doubt available.

The decs tracker is open now but I won't link to it in case anyone who already knows how to find it gets upset. 😂

They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit and yet it's lost on some, even those who practice it themselves. 😂

On a more positive note, sounds like Cooper isn't expecting much rain as he's putting another 2.5mm-3mm on the round course today and it looks like the race might have cut up a bit, unless there are still late declarations to be uploaded.

This is one weather site I tend to check. It's saying no rain before Saturday and next to nothing on the day so if he does as good a job as they did at Ascot I'll be happy enough. Good, fast summer ground is fair to everybody.

When did I say I "minded" it??!!

OMG, I'm more misunderstood than Jesus Christ was back in the day!

Put those nails and bits of wood away! 😂

Many thanks for the additional info, for readers to heed or not as is their wont, Maurice! 😂👍

I didn't say you minded it, Ian, but you did phrase it along the lines of people who 'wheel out' that kind of thing, which is quite a condescending way to put it and, in my opinion, implied disapproval.

I wonder who's going to make the running now.
Maybe Buick will take the bull by the horns, like Dettori did on Mostaddaff at York.
Think I've got that right 🤣

What, Ian being condescending? Next you’ll be telling me he writes a novella every time he replies, applying every caveat under the sun, implying he knows everything and nothing all at once, and could enlighten us if only he wasn’t too clever to share his actual thinking.

Incidentally, for those who weren’t around in 1961, Nothing (IRE) won at Ripon in a performance that, speaking purely as someone who may or may not know more than I let on, was unforgettable. But I wouldn’t want to bore anyone by explaining why.

Fair enough, Maurice, apologies if it came across that way.

I even refer to myself "wheeling out" things at times and tbh I don't really do implied disapproval or implied anything - I outright say it.

I shall choose my words more carefully in future.

Sosie is very short in the betting on this ground. I think all three 3yos have a better chance.

Yes, 12 years ago.

How many have tried since?

I don't know. I'm just asking because I'm wary of the bounce.
Since 2000, 49 horses have gone from the Ascot Prince Of Wales Flat Stakes 1m 1f 212y Group1 in June to the following Sandown Eclipse Flat Stakes 1m 1f 209y Group1, 8 have won, 9 have placed. Out of those are 6 winners of the Prince of Wales and only 1 managed to win the following Eclipse.

Other than that 'gem' I have Ombudsman a clear top rated
