The 2025 Prix Maurice Du Gheest

I just had a last minute bet on Samir! ( am pottering about in my computer room and thought of all the recent times when I didn’t back a complete outsider recently and they’ve won, given that I often throw a few pennies at them!)

Think Slim once said beat the price and lose thats what we do.

Done plenty of it myself down the years snatching defeat from the jaws of victory since 1979.

I've got a lumpy ante-post bet on Maranoa Charlie for the City of York in a fortnight and was pleased with Woodshauna representing his form there....needs 7.

Shadow Of Light was at least an interesting runner. The way the race is now, do you just take your value and run it out, or are you tempted to play a couple each way against it as aggressive hedging? With just the nine runners now, there’s a fair case to bet something like Inisherin each way.

I'm surprised to hear you saying that Slim seen as you're a never cash out sort of guy, well according to your 100 rules for betting anyway. Isn't that the same sort of thing ? I know there are people who do that sort of thing and I'm not saying it's wrong but aren't you in cases like that just giving some of your edge back ? That's how I've always seen it anyway. I'm a never cash out sort myself but I never want to give any of my edge back If I've backed something at a price and it's been hammered in the betting I'm not going to be laying some back or backing things against it as cover. If you're on for lifechanging amounts then I'd understand it but otherwise let it roll.

In fairness that should've been a penalty kick today for Lazzat, I don't think he's run anywhere near his best and he's still beat the rest of them and just been beaten by an act of god improver I don't think you can allow for fear of that in your betting.

I hardly ever hedge a bet - I only did it yesterday because 33/1 and 9/1 about a horse who I make 5/1 and touches 7/4 made it an easy decision.

But hedging bets at 15/8 and 7/4 at 1.64 was never going to happen today.

I wasn't on the fav. I was looking at the race cold. It was the shape of the race why I asked had he considered hedging.

Act of God,my butt ;the closing 2f section was timed at 22.55secs, a closing speed that shouts out lack of earlier pace.
That's French racing ,and I did warn of the likelihood before the race
Slim
Inisherin had already had 2 wind ops,and RM seemed to accept they hadn't worked, early doors.I bet him win only,as a precaution.
