The 2026 Cheltenham Gold Cup

Of course. Just shows you how much thought I put into Cheltenhan in advance any more.
Heard someone say something the other day.

Dont quote me on the specifics, but Patrick hasn’t won a Cheltenham race other than the bumper against pro jockeys. How many rides that actually is I dont know. And I know he’ll only be on 2nd and 3rd strings but still. Townend won his fair share when no.2 to Ruby.
Yet all we’ll hear all week is Patrick is an amateur only in name.
Id actually make Gaelic Warrior fav if Townend was on.

Did the exact same thing with Chacun Pour Soi a few years later.
Imagine Townend falls off one this week and does his arm. Would Willie seriously be putting him up on the 1st string?

That is the biggest risk to Willie's yard that no one ever talks about. It's why I think Mark Walsh will be riding there next season.

As i said in other thread, fully expecf Gaelic Warrior to go off fav now.
He’s just gained 10lbs improvement by not having Patrick legged up.

It's such a wide open race this year. I was hoping GDC would do the business so rather gutted he is missing out.

There's no way in my opinion you can back Inothewayurthinkin with much confidence, and for me there are ?s around Jango Baie and The Jukebox Man getting the trip and dealing with the undulations.

That said, I have no idea who wins. Wouldn't surprise me to see Gaelic Warrior stay on and grind it out.

I've long been a GW supporter. Seem to remember I was slapped down by a few on here after his run in the KG. So for that reason I hope he wins.

I think there's a few in this who won't get the trip.

Anyway, if Stellar Story hunts round (a la Grittar in 1982) and finishes within 20 lengths of the winner on Friday, the beast wins the Grand National with his head in his chest, enabling me to relocate to a bunker in New Zealand, which is apparently the place to be in the event of a nuclear war.

The Decs Tracker opens at 8.00am and if you've not already whipped yourself up into such a loud frenzy of extrovert excitement the neighbours have called both the Police and Social Services, are you even a Jump Racing fan?

There is a school of thought that all right thinking moral people want Inothewayurthinking to finish last, but I don't get emotional about these things and will just laugh if he wins.

I recall Night Nurse and Monksfield not doing much between Champion Hurdle wins back in the day, but there weren't the mid-season Grade 1 opportunities there are now back then and top-class jumpers often ran in handicaps under welter burdens at provincial tracks to keep them ticking over.

3m2f11yds round an undulating track takes some getting - it's totally different to 3m on a Park course - but less so when the ground is Good.

Thorough stayers like Burrough Hill Lad, Master Oats (both Welsh National winners) and The Thinker (Midlands National winner) tend to do best when it's an attritional War, but ever since I saw Pendil get outstayed by The Dikler I've been wary of beasts with unproven stamina in this race.
