The Best Sandwich

Hmmm................. I must have missed that episode. Anyone for a banana sandwich?

UG I was a little upset about Chepstow, but it gave me some time to start a thread on here, which is always a pleasure. :)

I hate so-called crusts on soft bread, and find they peel off smoothly. But I'm assisting local wild life, since they're always donated to the birds and never thrown away. I like crunchy crusts on French bread, though - yummy. So, a corner is nipped off neatly (like Griffin), crust-peeling is employed, then the rest is eaten in the usual manner.

This is a cruel topic - I'm cutting way back on breadstuffs as the diet has begun, in the faint but determined hope of regaining some semblance of human, rather than hippo, form by the end of the year. I bought some 'healthy living' sarnies from Boots when pushed for time this week, and removed all the under-slices, so it was lots of innards with half the bread. Much healthier living!

I like crusts - and my sandwiches are great, at least I like them - quality ingredients (and no skimping on them) is the key!

As for the technique in eating - how about the "cramming three sarnies down your neck as fast as you can" technique?!

I really wouldn't fancy a bollock sandwich.

Dims - did you see the episode of River Cottage where Hugh Fearnley Whittinbum had the castrator in for his lambs ... ? (or was it the cattle, can't remember) :D
:o :o :P
An English couple on holiday in Seville stopped at a local restaurant following a day's sight seeing. While sipping their drinks, they noticed a sizzling, scrumptious looking platter being served at the next table.

Not only did it look good, the smell was wonderful.

They asked the waiter, "What is that you just served?"

The waiter replied, "Ah senor!! senorita!!, you have excellent taste! Those are a local speciality, bull's testicles from the bull fight this morning, a true delicacy!"

Momentarily daunted, the couple decided, when in Spain, do as the Spanish do and the man said, "What the heck, we're on holiday! Bring us the same please!"

The waiter replied, "I am so sorry sir. There is only one serving per day because there is only one bull fight each morning. If you come early tomorrow and place your order, we will be sure to save you this delicacy"!

The next morning, they returned, reserved their dish, and sure enough that evening they were served the one and only special delicacy of the day.

After a few bites, and inspecting the contents of his platter, the man called to the waiter and said, "These are delicious, but they are much, much smaller than the ones I saw you serve yesterday!"

The waiter shrugged his shoulders and replied, "Si, Si Senor. Sometimes the bull wins." :P

I made an awesome one before Christmas (and the start of the diet)

I fried a chicken breast in pieces with some mushrooms. I added bacon and lined about 10 inches of baguette with butter and cheese then finally an egg went into the pan. Whack the whole lot into the baguette and there you have it. I wonder why I need the diet....

For sandwiches to take to school, I have granary bread with either cheese or ham.

A sandwich shop near me does a breakfast baguette. Sausage, bacon, fried egg and beans. Absolutely packed full it is too. My current lunch favourite is a brie and ham panini. I also quite like a panini with bacon, halloumi cheese and grilled peppers.

Footlong subway meatball...Italian Herb and cheese bread, with lettuce, peppers, cheese, olives red oninon and tomato, and South west sause... Absolute monster of a feed!! Seriosuly, that would keep anyone goin for 2 days!! I lived on them as a student.

I absolutely love Subway 6 inchers! It is quite easy to have healthy options too and just thinking of some of the different ones toasted with cheese, olives, lean turkey and loads of fresh salad is making my mouth water.

There's a sandwich shop in Thatcham that does the best hog roast, stuffing, crackling & apple sauce baguettes I've ever had. It'll keep you going for a week!

I'm hungry!

And I'm on a diet so none of my favourite sandwiches for me.

I'm definitely a bacon sandwich girl, either with lettuce and mayo or with onions or with avocado. Chicken and stuffing is good, with cranberry sauce. Beef and horseradish is also a good one. Anything meaty or cheesy really!

I'm currently on wholemeal pitta breads with a scraping of caramelised onion houmous, which is still quite nice to be honest.

Everyone seems to be on diets.

Im just waiting on a kebab to be delivered, don't worry though i have it with salad. :P

Everyone seems to be on diets.
I'm joining the bandwagon too  Off to Fat Fighters on Wednesday  Shall try to eat my own bodyweight in cake before then

If I can do it then I'm sure others can.

I used to adore my crisps (Seabrook especially) but haven't had a pack for six months.
I've also pretty much cut out chocolate as well.
Of course a little bit of exercise helps.

That's not to say I don't still enjoy the odd bacon sarnie.
Gone though are the days of having six slices of bread for sarnies with my main meal,a couple at most these days.

The perfect bacon sarnie is on granary/seeded bread, with loads of butter, baby plum tomatoes & the bacon cremated, mmmmmmm......

for me its cheese & ham with pickle, or lettuce cucumber & mayo. I alos like the wraps they do in tescos, southern fried chicken with ettuce & coeslaw. yum

Can i say that me inbetween Imogen from last years Big Brother and Cheryl Tweedy would be my ideal sandwich! ;)

Or just a traditional Cheese and Coleslaw baguette is very nice.

I can't enjoy my favourite sandwich at the moment. The diet I've just started says I mustn't eat anything I can't lift.

Dammitall, delboy! You've reminded me of my favourite bought sandwich of all time! Yes, the foot-long Italian meata-ball-a, with the same baguette - but I usually ask for just extra cheese and never mind the healthy stuff! Cor, it ain't 'alf tasty, Mum!

Three pints of the black stuff, followed by a chicken'n'bacon'n'mayo ciabatta, and a carton of lentil soup.

Lunch of the Gods.
