Any of today's runners strike you as Epsom Derby winners in waiting?

Strategic Prince looked like the most likely Guineas runner to stay the 12f trip on pedigree, but he didn't race like a Derby horse today.

Authorized is the ante-post favourite, which is scandalous.

Both Eagle Mountain and Duke of Marmalade looked like they would be better for further. Whether that is 10f or 12f is the question.

Please feel free to change it, I wouldn't want the race to go the same way as the Bula Hurdle.

They'll be calling it the Epsom Heritage stakes next.

Wonderful input to the thread Brian....

Anyways back to the point...imagine Eagle Mountain and Duke Of Marmalade will both appreciate a step up in trip. Eagle Mountain looks a handy enough type as well that would handle Epsom, not sure about the trip though....looks another Oratario to me.

Serious reservations about Duke Of Marmalade on a track like Epsom after his injury and I hope (and imagine) they will not run him in it.

Totally agree. He seems to be there by default more than anything else. I know he was impressive in winning the Racing Post Trophy last year but I can't get away from the fact that it was on heavy ground. He's certainly not my idea of a worthwhile ante-post bet.

Spot on Gal - had Oratorio II running through my mind as they crossed the line today.

How so? He tried laying up behind a pace far too strong for him and got tired. My view is if he`d been drawn towards the stand side he`d have had more cover, wouldn`t have extended himself as much early doors and so would have finished better.

i cant see the winner of the derby coming from yesterdays race

agree with bar re strategic prince he lacks any tactical speed and theres no guarentee that there will be fast ground at epsom either

moores wells or macarthur look the canditates for me at the moment

My intention apart from a Derby discussion was to wind up Ardross.

Like Warbler, I can't see The Duke stay 12 furlongs.

Euro, you're chasing your losses on Strategic Prince, methinks. He always looked like a speed horse to me as a 2yo. Yesterday, he looked just not good enough.

We`ll see Bar, but given the tests of stamina his half brothers required i still believe 12f will bring about a certain amount of improvement.

I feel that Duke Of Marmalade will be struggling to get 10f, never mind 12.

With Danehill as the sire, you have to look at the dam's side for stamina potential, and there's not much encouragement there.

I'm sure Strategic Prince will stay the trip - his pedigree is packed with stamina on the dam's side - and I'm happy with my antepost e/w @ 20s. I'm going to have a bit on Mores Wells as well though

I personally think there is enough stamina in Duke Of Marmalade for him to get the 10f trip. Coupled with that his lazy style of race should help give him every chance of getting it.

Lingfield trials and trials at Leopardstown on Sunday should be interesting. Imagine Macarthur will turn up at Leopardstown with something like Mount Nelson going for the Dante?

Of Duke Of Marmalade and Eagle Mountain 9 furlongs looks about as far as the former would want to go, and he'll be very effective at a mile, while Eagle Mountain has pretty good chances of 12 furlongs being out of a Darshaan mare.

O'Brien seems keen on sending Eagle Mountain to Chantilly. I think that's the right move; but they could do with having a pacemaker in there.

That plan sounds sensible enough to me. I think Gal might have another one for that race though.
