in the interests of inclusivity, I thought I'd get the ball rolling with early discussion on this one. Betfair prices currently showing as

Sprinter Sacre 5.2 (won't go)
Dynaste 8.8 (you're having a giraffe intcha)
Long Run 9.6 (must be something to beat it surely)
Simonsig 12 (see Dynaste)
Cue Card 11 (did he not get fucked out of sight in this last year?)
Silviniaco Conti 12 (interesting)
Al Ferof 8.8 (i'd want to see him back in action first)
Mount Benbulben 22 (who?)
Captain Chris 29 (interesting)
Grands Crus 42 (beat it)
Menorah 32 (beat it)
Sir Des Champs 18.5 (will prob stay at home given Flemenstar plans)
Finians Rainbow 85 (trading price)
Bobs Worth 65 (trading price - surely be shorter even if he is not headed here)
Flemenstar 22 (already planned for another race at that time)

Thoughts?

i'd agree with who you said were interesting.

capt chris is a huge price.

conti would be my idea of the winner if he went but i'm not sure whether nicholls will differ his route from last year.

i wouldn't write off cue card. the ground was absolutely desperate last year and he made a huge error at the first, he'd be the class horse of this lot if sprinter & simonsig didn't turn up.

Cue Card wins this at a canter.

Expect him to start odds on.

His current price is an insult to Colin Tizzard, Lively Joe Tizzard, the whole county of Dorset, the dairy farming community, every horse he ever beat and stable stalwart Bob Bob Bobbin. And me.

Dynaste 8.8 (you're having a giraffe intcha)

Not a great price but I'd sooner have Dynaste than Long Run or Silviniaco Conti.

16/1 is freely available about Al Ferof. I have a bit of that but prefer him for the Gold Cup.

Menorah has got a huge engine but needs fast ground and a flat track. If we got a decent surface on boxing day I'd back him each way.

SDC might come over if Bob's Worth goes for the Lexus.

Mount Benbulben has to race RH so they'd be mad to run him anywhere else over Christmas - 3 miles with cut should suit him but he's unlikely to be good enough.

LH: 5 runs 1 win

RH: 11 runs 7 wins (one SU when cantering, one fell when going well).

Front two from last year plus Simonsig and a couple of last years novices would be a fine line-up IMO. A few in the list have already proven themselves not to be good enough, a few getting older and others have options closer to home.

Can Admin please change the title of the other thread to "The Poof's King George" or something similarly accurate, in order that we can tell it apart from this one?

Last season's novice stayers are bogus. They won't stand a chance.

Grands Crus is a thief and a coward.

Long Run is past it.

Captain Chris finds several new ways to lose every year, and Menorah is a basket-case. Or is Captain Captain Chris the basket-case, and Menorah is the one who finds new ways to lose? Or is it both?

Silviniaco is best left to farm Peter Marsh and Grimthorpe Chases.

Simonsig will have his sights lowered when he's beaten FTO.

Finian's is a goner.

Benbulben is a total no-hoper and would be better-off in the Welsh National.

SDC and Flemenstar won't travel.

Al Ferof is too short.

Cue Card is too short given trainer has a long memory and might go Peterborough/Ascot Chases instead.

Neither the Aeroplane nor Bob's Worth will run.

First Lieutenant would absolutely shite-up in this if he ran. Why isn't he quoted??

God, you are an intelligent man.

As Grassy rightly says FL would hack up if he goes. Concerned that he's such a big price though. I know Long Run is getting on a bit - but he doesn't really have much to beat here....

he's 25's because he'll probably turn up for the lexus instead of here.

i don't think he'd hack up and there's no form to suggest that really. the form of the punchestown gold cup seems about right to my eye in that he's of similar ability to long run & sir des champs (confirmed by the lexus chase as well). which would make him a player and a great e/w shot at 25s.....but will he turn up?
