The Official Constitution Hill Thread 2025/26

Forget the trip, are we certain The New Lion's form holds up? He's priced more on the ability we think is there rather than the form he's shown..

I'd agree but the trip also has to be an issue he took a long time to get there at Cheltenham over 2m5f and as you say we're yet to really see how that plays out. But then Anzadam is even more so priced on potential and reputation. Then who knows what Constitution Hill turns up ? On his last completed start he beat Lossie which would probably be good enough to win this. He was going well enough in the Champion and at Aintree to suggest the engine is to some degree still there. Punchestown was a worry but if he consents to race here and has a clear round then he's still by far the one they have to beat. I'll be amazed if he's not sent off clear favourite.

For various reasons (pedigree and the fact he's raced almost exclusively over further so far, I am yet to be convinced about The New Lion over 2m.

Anzadam looked a machine to me when he mowed down Kala Conti at Fairyhouse and I'm hoping he will retire Constituton Hill on Saturday and send The New Lion packing to staying hurdles races or even novice chases.

Intriguing race, for sure.

Ask yourself why he missed his intended target. There was a rumour doing the rounds.

He travelled all over them at Cheltenham. If it was 2m he'd have won easily.

He's travelling all over them at 2m5f pace but then still took time to pick up when asked. He can travel all over them on Saturday if he likes but if he takes his time to pick up then they'll be gone.

If he comes off the bridle his bubble is burst.

From a money in my pocket point of view i hope you're right Ian.
Same as that - I've got 12/1 and 10/1 Constitution Hill to win no more Champion Hurdles with savers at 7/2 and 5/2 to win one more.

I want him retired sharpish, so I can get paid on the main bet!

One things for sure if this goes the way of the Champion and all the big guns hit the deck for Golden Ace to pick up the pieces that'll be my bubble burst and it'll be time to wrap it up!

I sense the day you collect you'll be wearing your smugest smile.

You should have been listening when your Dad was explaining opportunity cost. Those tickets are in negative utility equity.

Actually love this, but on this occasion and at these odds I can live without the lack of interest on an alternative investment.

That said, it isn't over until it's over, owner and trainer have already been in denial for ages and I could see the horse staying in training until he's 12, ffs - just look out for all the old Sea Pigeon references surfacing once he's in double digits.

Reminds me of Samcro having a crack at the Fighting Fifth, after a flawless novice campaign. Taken to the cleaners over the shorter trip, by Buevoir D'are.

I was there. It was bottomless. Not one good judge could have Samcro beat.

Kala Conti wouldn't be the best mare in the world (OR 140), but she's quite useful and Anzadam annihilated her at Fairyhouse.

I'm not actually big on visuals - they all look good, running past trees etc - but the way he quickened up to go clear and was back on the bit at the line hinted at a horse of considerable talent to me.

If he turns up good to go at Gosforth Park, he might just murder them all for foot at the business end.

Long term, he's the horse I'd want.

I'll have a look before Saturday but what little I saw of Anzadam last season didn't strike me as anything special.

(But that might depend on one's definition of 'special'.)
