The Racing Rant Thread

Fashion on RTE racing - who gives a flying fock

Gok Wan appeared on either ITV or CH4 - it was vile

Lack of HD picture on ATR

Stable staff being given a poxy photo frame EVERY time for their prize no matter how big the race! Why can't they have a scaled down version of the owner's trophy as the trainer & jockey often get? When I was in the US, the winning groom for the Kentucky Derby got a brand new truck for a year! (great sponsorship opportunity for a car dealership too!)

As a middle aged miserable **** I could also fill the 100 easily as well

Here’s a few:

British racing folk (especially NH trainers) saying "the last day" (fine if you’re Irish)

lack of a NH break after Punchestown/Whitbread day

(1 per post please.)

The experience of going racing [in Britain] spoiled by:

· Grossly expensive admission charges
· Courses pandering to the lad/ette element, selling a day out to them as an excuse for getting dressed up like they were going to My Big Fat Wedding
· Not being able to get about the course in peace for said pished lad/ettes
· Cramped odds with on-course bookmakers
· Grossly expensive food at catering outlets

Names such as Rebelion Boy which are presumably misspelt through error rather than design but never get corrected.

I'm going to York next week for 3 days because the racecourse, company and racing is all top quality but what the **** is it with the poncey dress code? BrianH jumped on me two years ago for fear of being shot by a racecourse Nazi for trying to remove my jacket in a relative heat wave on the Champagne lawn before racing. Every prick in York wearing a suit like they're ******* Tony Soprano. **** right off, I've more money in my ******* shoe you Yorkshire ****.

Glad to see you've taken the rant element of the theme to heart...

In seriousness it does totally wind me up being made to wear a jacket in hot weather. Basically a form of torture.

Come Flat racing - the weather is so much better during the summer!

PS. Please keep your jacket on.

Fu*cking wankers.

PF Nicholls complaining about horses like Kauto Star, Denman and Master Minded not getting enough credit.

'Picnic' areas right by the rail/steps in Premier at the big meetings at Ascot. Crap and people wearing clothes that don't fit them sprawled all over the place, getting in the way and not even watching the racing.
Lack of Stewards at Ascot - last meeting someone threw a whole pint over the heads of those in that area from the seats up above.
Same racecourse: Stewards not keeping the aisles clear - it's like the Normandy beaches trying to get back up the steps if you want to go that way to the pre parade ring for the next race.
Same racecourse: not being allowed to cross over the horse walk underneath the NCP look alike tunnel at the entry to the parade ring.
Cost of racecards.
Cost of entry for most meetings at Ascot and Newbury ( I'm in the South - everywhere else is pretty reasonable)
The searching of women's handbags but small people with large bags and a whip allowed to walk in unchallenged, and men with large coats on not asked to turn their pockets out or show they are not wearing a strap on vest underneath.

Bookmakers who immediately shorten up any runner who is reluctant to load/line up or who the jockey has dismounted at the start for an as-yet-unspecified reason or who spreads a plate at the start, in anticipation of a W/D and a bigger Rule 4 deduction.

Betfair layers cause that.
