The Road To The 2013 Grand National

colbert street is going to have a couple more runs perhaps 1 in the bobbyjoe as walsh says he cant recall a national winner having so few runs over fences

looks a good type for the national but maybe hawkwing is right that 2014 will be the target

20) P11-062 TEAFORTHREE (IRE) 9-10-13 T437 Rebecca Curtis

Will this go off odds against?

At the weights if they can get him back to near his best I'd be all over PANDORAMA like a rash.

He's a better horse on soft but the extra distance could compensate somewhat for that.

I took a real liking to him before he was injured hopefully he'll turn up.

Pandorama 220 on the machine

At this stage - Teaforthree, Wyck Hill and Prince de Beauchene (mainly because he's likely to be Ruby's ride - assuming the latter doesn't do a cartwheel in the Aintree Hurdle again) stand out for me.

The Tidal weight compared to Seabass is a disgrace. Smith must have put his stones on PFN getting top trainer again. I dont think either will win but i wonder why some bother.

Another I could see running well is Planet of Sound, a classy sort who has dropped a bit in the weights, but at the moment I'm happy with the three I put up earlier in this thread.

Suitability to the National test comes into it. Seabass ran a cracker in the race last year but it's completely the wrong race for Tidal Bay. He'll get outpaced early and even if he doesn't sulk the best he can hope for is a running on 4th.

I backed Beshabar antepost last year, every time I had a winner I'd throw a few quid on it, ended up being a non runner. Off a better weight this year and although not run could be a worth a few quid each way. Currently 41st in the weights so would expect it to get in comfortably. Hugh Taylor has given it a mention as well in his column today. I'm not going to back it ante post this time but I'll keep an eye on its price and if the money starts to come for it I may well dive in...

There are five factors that all 10 of the last Grand National winners have in common...

1. Officially Rated 138-157
2. Won at least over 3m
3. At least one top 3 finish in last 3 runs
4. Between three and six starts since August
5. Won a chase worth at least £29,000

Add two more

6. 8/10 carried no more than 11st 1lb
7. 8/10 were aged nine or ten

And that leaves just 6 horses entered who meet all seven of the statistics:

Teaforthree
Colbert Station
Tofino Bay
Joncol
Bostons Angel
Chicago Grey
