The Triumph Hurdle

Thought this was an impossible race, so just stuck £1 ew on Blue Lemons 40/1, Mondo Man 40/1 and Poniros 66/1 earlier in the week. The latter on the basis of that strong London Gold Cup form! I nearly posted this then, sorry I didn’t, so kicking myself now I didn’t. Then again, I can’t put all my thoughts on here as it would be a full time job. Noticed 100/1 this morning so had another little bet with boost from William Hill. IMG_0517.jpeg

Glad some were on it. I was convinced that there would be a shock winner in this but couldn’t work out where it might come from.

I thought STD did not shine on East India Dock - he gave him a sort of halfway house ride allowing him to be sucker punched - not sure at all James Owen made the right decision when making STD rather than Cobden his first choice jockey .

Someone made the point on TV, the starter played a big role in the outcome of the race. He effectively made it almost a 2m2f race by letting them go so far ahead of the tape. Anything whose stamina was ebbing late was impacted by that. It looked to me like it affected EID more than anything else. EID also lost a shoe during the race.

Hope that's not running salt in anyone's wounds.

It's a bit early to start a thread for the 2026 Triumph Hurdle, but Willie Mullins runs Dead Cert in the 2:50 at Auteuil today. Prix Rush - hurdle race over 1m 7f for 3yo colts and geldings unraced over obstacles. Home-bred, runs in Patrick's colours, and Rachael Blackmore - with a weight allowance, I think - rides today.

Yes, I thought the starting was diabolical, it ruined the chances of several horses. The starter too often seemed in panic mode to get them away regardless and when he did resort to getting them to line up for a standing start he let them have their noses on the tape. I know it’s not an easy job and the jockeys have a lot to answer for (it was much better on Friday after they had the Riot Act address), but it shouldn’t happen.
