The Well Worn Road To The Champion Hurdle (2016)

If you take it as a gimme that Faugheen goes to kempton, where will Henderson send his lot for a prep.

i heard what PM had to say about Faugheen prep but no reason he couldn't take in a prep before March

Peace should be taking in the International and then Kingwell, hopefully he'll wallop The New One far enough in the Bula that twister abandons his quest for a CH with him.

I haven't seen todays race yet and it sounds like it was a workmanlike performance but there very well could be another big grade 1 hurdle in The New One.
Its very unlikely to be the Champion Hurdle - but he could still beat either Douvan, Peace and Co, Nicholls Canyon, and Arctic Fire in one of the trials that you mention, imo.

I'd like him to land a blow against one of those four horses in the run up to the festival.
Whilst acknowledging he can't win a Champion Hurdle what I'm suggesting is a decent and reasonable angle to take on what could happen, imo.
Mind you, I've not called much right in the 2 mile hurdling division at the top end since my namesake Marble Arch nabbed a place for me in the Champion at 25/1 many moons ago. :)

The New One has enough ability to pick up plenty of decent races and give big guns enough to think about when that time comes, Aintree or before.
They can always bring him to Ireland for all those "soft " grade 1s that HF used specialise in !!

P@C didn't come off the bridle until the last in the Triumph. The course and the ground will suit him far more next March and I like the 12s I have.

Love Faugheen, but 5/4 is way too short for a race 5 months away. Hargam was only 4L's off the front two in the Triumph when the ground had gone against him. At 40/1 he's worth a few quid

Agree with the majority re, The New One, can't win a Champion, lots of pots to be picked up through the season though, I'd be tempted to give the Long Walk a go or Newbury Hennessey day to see if he stayed and if he did, aim him at the Stayers.

"Entries are made tomorrow morning for the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown on November 15, so that's the likely starting point as he'll be ready to go then.

Nigel Twiston-Davies with The New One

Comments (0) Nigel Twiston-Davies has ruled out The New One stepping up in trip to tackle the World Hurdle, a race he is as short as 10/1 for with firms Betfred and Totesport.
Some punters have made up their minds that the seven-year-old, fifth and third in the last two Champion Hurdles, will not have a third crack at it and will instead step up for three mile championship honours.
But the Guiting Power trainer is adamant that the son of King's Theatre has not had things go his way and has earned a chance to share the stage with Faugheen over two miles come March.
Asked whether The New One would try three miles at The Festival, building on his strong finish in the 2m 5f 2013 Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle, Twiston-Davies said: "No what's the point?

They just spout pure bollocks from that yard.
NJH is forever the optimist and many times he gets it wrong....but he is not the first or the last trainer to get it wrong. He also has a bad habit of blatantly saying things aimed at keeping certain owners happy or their interest intact..that of course can be said of all trainers. Spouting bollocks is what you are doing withought thought or reason...

My own take on the info coming from NJH is that him hinting that MTOY is the stables number 1 contender for CH honours is aimed at the owners ears....no doubt about it Peace and Co is the main hope as the betting would suggest...talk of him being stepped up to 2m4f is complete nonsense...unless the Fighting 900fith trip has been changed...Hargam will be heading for the Greatwood no doubt but Top Notch could be switched there if the ground comes up soft

Exactly. Plus Willie was saying the Fly was his number one contender not long before the Festival.

That said if Nicky goes in mob handed in March and the pace is seering MTOY would have a cracking chance.

fair point and it could be. Although it's hard to see past last years winner, I'm not one to believe that Mullins horses will always improve or even keep their form. HF is a clear positive of course before anyone spouts off but we shall see

P&C needs 2.5 miles now imo..over 2m1 in the triumph..he only got on top in the last half furlong..that tells you that he will want greater than 2 miles now..at championship level

P&C is the new..new one...as with that one..it took punters a year or so to cotton on he wasn't a 2 miler..and even now the trainer still hasn't

P&C = TNO

imo

He was on the bridle until the last and the ground was against him.

TNO isn't a top drawer two miler because he hasn't the pace to keep up in a championship event. P&C travels Harchibald like in contrast.

If Tent has retained his ability then he can run all over the back of Faugheen. Now the ifs, he can settle, and say bring it on when push comes to shove. All are debatable.
