Weights are out on Thursday. Prince De Beauchene likely to be the top weight. I really like Quiscover Fontaine (12/1) for this. Always looked like 3 miles on soft ground would be where he would pick up a big pot. 143 is a fair mark for a horse who was 6th over an inadequate 2m in a Champion Chase on good ground and 4th in last years Irish National. I think it will take a really well plotted one to stop him.

Love this race. Ultra stamina test!! Filled my boots when Notre Pere won it.

Alpha Ridge a likely runner?

This is one of the Irish handicaps where I know i'm beaten before I start!! I don't think i've ever had a bet on this race.

Love this race.

Is anyone betting on it yet (no BF market)? I reckon I have the winner.*

* I always say that, yet my record in the Thyestes is actually terrifically shite

Cheers Slim.

I've taken 20's about Ad Idem with the Magic Sign. He's run creditably at the track before, and is crying out for this step-up in trip over fences - his 3m form as a novice hurdler standing a fair bit of scrutiny, imo. His Wins-to-Runs ratio isn't fantastic, but that might be because he's generally been fairly highly tried, and his price allows for a decent place return anyway for e/w backers.

He ran a really good prep for this at Naas on his reappearance, and I think he can be seriously competitive off a mark of 139. I had a sideways look at Rivage D'Or too, and might have a saver on him, but I'm really quite sweet on Ad Idem's chances.

Anyone know if this is a speculative entry, or a declared target?

I would be shocked if it was not the aim for the horse. Likes the track and will love the going. 20/1 a fair stab.

Looking further down the ratings Ainama (25/1) rather than Groove Hill (10/1) looks the most interesting. Has had an interesting campaign. The form of his beginners chase win against Traffic Article looks very good now. After he finished 4th in Killarney in August (3rd run over fences) this race came to my mind for the horse. Surely he's thrown in off 123?

127 according to the RP, OTB.

Grassy
Though Ad Idem made a horlicks of the final fence on his last c/d run,it didn't cost him much momentum, and Wicklow Lad went past him pretty comfortably for a couple of taps with the whip. A 7lb turnaround might not be enough to reverse that result, imo.

Weight stops trains, reet. :D

Ad Idem travelled great that day, but found the concession of 30lbs to Wicklow Lad too much - it's not all that surprising that he was readily chinned after not quite nailing the last.

He'll have to give Wicklow Lad 19lbs this time (unless they put up another claimer), and I'm reasonably satisfied that Ad Idem can turn that form around. To me, he looks like a horse who has been laid out for this race, as he's had other engagements in decent handicaps that he's swerved in favour of a crack at this.

Willie Mullins stable tour on Quiscover Fontaine:

He had a light campaign and finished with a good fourth in the Irish Grand National. That was the first time he’d raced beyond 2m5f and he’s never won beyond 2m4f, but his pedigree suggests stamina and the National run backs that up. We’ll look at handicap chases and you’d like to think he’ll be able to win a good one. 14/11/11

I'm all over Telenor for this. Won the Ten Up over C&D, and didn't have a clear run at things last season. I think we can assume that Jim Dreaper has had this in mind for a while, and 40+ on Betfair is huuuuuge.

Not the Troytown, but any opinions on the first? The favourite at odds on must be taken on - for such a lightly raced horse it is a very bad sign to have 'swished tail' in 2 of his race comments.

That'll be the Kings Best in him I suppose.

I was interested in Argocat, alas he's a NR.

Watching brief for me now.

A few of us have taken a lease on In Bloom, who runs in that race, for the next six months. We're hoping for a good showing.

Great stuff, congrats.

Thanks for the heads up.

Looks a really nice prospect, but the jockey was lucky, horse got him out of jail - should have kicked on before the last. You'll have some exciting times now.
