Battlestar Galactica is another excellent show - don't be put off by the Sci-Fi setting.
I`ve almost sent off for season 1 on a couple of occasions. The Sci-fi doesn`t put me off, more the original film.

The Wire - Five seasons in total, four available in the shops. Possibly the greatest tv show ever.

Series five out soon and i agree Eur. Up there with Sopranos and The Sweeney at least.

An unusual one form the great HBO stable is Big Love. About a mormon family in Utah. Not promising? It is superb and was abig hit in the US

I've got quite a few box sets. The west wing is genius, absolutely top class, 24 is very good. I have all 3 series of House which is pretty good, Star Trek TNG is also very good

It couldn't be further removed from the original series if it tried.

There was a feature length pilot made which takes place prior to the beginning of Season 1 - if you haven't seen this, Season 1 won't make a lot of sense :)

You can pick it up for a few quid on DVD.

I am surprised at the omission of The World At War......

I am not surprised at the omission of Absolutely, recently released for the first time on DVD. Stonking good comedy from the early nineties for those unfamiliar with it (Recall Warbler mentioning it a few weeks back). £25 for 4 series. Purchase, bitches!

Nice call. A lot funnier than Rab C. Nesbitt and Naked Video.

This thread could be quite costly as i`m probably gonna end up getting a few of these suggestions.

My son - 25- bought sets of King of The Hill and Family Guy, I have to say whenever I've caught these adult cartoons, I've loved them - really enjoyable and very clever at times. Not exactly family viewing though.

I`ve been off work recovering from my Hernia Op since the 5th October and I`ve got another week left. Knowing I`d need something to pass the time with apart from Poker and Chasers and Hurdlers I borrowed Seinfeld Seasons one through nine from my brother. It`s fabulous. I only ever caught the odd show in the past but watching them all back to back really makes you appreciate what a great show it was.
