The new series of Champions: Full Gallop
Never watched it, never will.

Apologies in advance to anyone offended by either this lifestyle choice by myself or my expression of said choice in these hallowed forum halls of debate.

I think I read somewhere the Levy Board have axed all funding for it.

Well if not grateful , bitch and complain less cos they show lots of races and you can ignore the between race slaver packed with the same superlatives every week.
I have a bigger gripe with some of the camera angles shown in the final couple of furlongs sometimes. They might have visual appeal but you can't really tell who is in the lead unless there is a significant differential between the runners.
Yup. It's a bugbear of mine, too.

As a watcher I want the cameras to show the field head on or side on so I can see how horses are travelling, whether the field is strung out, whether it's being run at a fast or slow pace. I don't find track-side, car-mounted moving travelling shots, worm's eye view, close ups of any one horse in running at all helpful; in fact they are a hindrance. As the race enters the closing stages, I don't want a close up on the first two or three; I want to see what's going on behind the leaders as well in order to see what those jockeys are doing, who's fading, who's finishing.

I appreciate that there will be viewers with no understanding of racing who want to see this kind of candy stuff but that can all be shown when the race is over, surely, and maybe it could replace some of the punditry blather.

So many manifestly ungrateful people on this thread - if it's not outright "bitching and complaining," it's "gripes" or "bugbears."

I'm loving it tbf.

Just watching Anthony Ennis (Enzo) on ATR -in the second race he said the fav was on its toes and it won handily. In the following race he said the second fav was very fit -he was never competetive in a 5 horse race.
Obviously not a paddock judge.

I don't watch midweek racing so wouldn't know if he was accurate or not but the paddock observations wouldn't have precluded the race outcomes. The first might just have been much better than the rest, the second might not have been off.

Even jinnyj got it wrong once, I think ;)

True -but I think he is a bit of a spoofer.

Just seen Talking Pictures TV are showing a re-run of 'The Racing Game'

Was a series from the late 70's, before my time, is it worth watching or not?

On at 8pm Monday 8th December

Not TV exactly, but "The Rainbow Jacket" is my all-time favourite racing movie - I first remember watching it on TV during the school holidays about 50 years ago, probably just after yet another holiday rerun of "The Flashing Blade:"

Today was probably the biggest day of the year for ATR and in my opinion they were hang average.Alex Hammond, Tom Scu and Josh Apiafi was a weak enough panel.
I think Apiafi is a spoofer-After the big race at Newbury he said that we probably wouldn't see Three Card Brag over fences again until the National. He ran unsuccessfully in the National this year and he doesn't exactly have 10lbs in hand.

Josh Apiafi started the Racing Media Academy, which is a noble cause, trying to get under represented groups in to the Racing Media. I met his brother Lee down at Doncaster Racecourse earlier this year when having my interview for this scheme. They seem like nice people. I've no idea about ATR coverage.

++++BREAKING NEWS++++

I watched ITV Racing today and started off trying to watch it with the volume up.

That proved too much of an ask, and I soon muted it between races, but I enjoyed the actual racing, liked the camera angles for the most part, didn't find them intrusive or spoiling the overall action and they certainly covered plenty of races.

I hope having my televisual unit on for a few hours won't impact my electricity bill too much!

The cynic in me says he has his own carriage on the gravy train.

I've a feeling he's more than enough cash not to need to be on any gravy train, Luke.

He's surely not one of the skint mob anyway...

I'd like to think he's doing because he loves it.
