Twitter

Everyone gets gubbed eventually. I know that. It's the nature of the modern bookmaker business run by beancounters.
But this takes the biscuit ( for me, anyway).
Yesterday I entered a Twitter comp run by Stan James (Name the first goalscorer from yesterday's four 2.00 pm kick-off Premiership matches. I named Clint Dempsey and won a €10 free bet) ...............................
"StanJames.com ‏ @stanjames
The lucky winners are as follows.. @Tkay79 @Lowton69 @bohsmark @denmankautoposh @Stu_89 @Sooty1989 @Goals_Betting @1983ptw @hoofie @nathaldo
"

Just one hour later I received this sod-off email from Stan:

Dear Mr Crowley,

Your StanJames.com username is: hoofie
Your StanJames.com Acc No is: ST128777

All Stan James accounts are reviewed on a regular basis by our Trading team, and due to betting patterns on this account the decision has been made to close it.

I would make you aware that this decision has been made at the highest level and will not be reversed. Any open bets will be honoured, and any outstanding balance will be returned to you via your normal withdrawal method.

Kind regards,
Alison
The Stan James Team.

Are the two contingencies related? Maybe, maybe not. I'm inclined to think that a lot more than coincidence is at play here -- my bets with Stan were not huge by any stretch of the imagination.
This would make me wary in future of interacting with any bookmaker via Twitter. (Beware of Greeks bearing/offering gifts 'n all that).

And to think that I tweeted my thanks for the tenner free bet to this shower of spineless, gutless, lily-livered yellowbellies makes me want to puke.

When you're arbing it's always going to happen.

No Slim !
The issue in this instance is that the account was closed 60 minutes after an entry into their poxy competition subsequently won.
This particular account was active and functional for seven years without any restrictions. Then, suddenly, ............. bang, it's gone. Closed etc etc.
(Can't help but come to the one conclusion that if you win a low-prize competition you are flagged as a "shrewd".)

Look, I only posted it as a modest caution and caveat that anyone entering Twitter bookmaker comps might be surprised to learn that winning a minor prize could well result in losing their account.
Wasn't whinging or bitching or looking for sympathy or anything. There's loadsa other options out there anyway.

Victor has gone beserk with good offers recently. :)
He's tweeting decent offers out like confetti of late.
Today's one .................. there's an easy £17/£18 risk-free in it.

For those on twitter, I suggest you take a look at the tweets of @Big_Sam. Some of the funniest **** ever. Someone posts up his musings on another forum and it's always good for a good guffaw...

Am I right in thinking that the 17yo arrested after tweeting Tom Daley's tweet only said "You let your dad down i hope you know that." I'm sorry, but I just don't see how that warrants a police investigation when people are hounded and abused by ex's, partners, spouses etc to a much worse degree on a daily basis. This seems completely OTT to me.

Ah thanks. That was all I had seen reported and couldn't get my head around why that would cause so much furore.

Celebrities get treated differently Dave, your point is valid. Don't get me started on the poor dope from Swansea who drank too much and tweeted.

One of the best things about twitter is that celebrities do get called out when they **** up. But Daley obviously had done nothing wrong.

As for this guy, I come across cocky little dickheads like him all the time at work.
A good paggering in the Police cells might do him a bit of good for all that I loathe Bobby Law.

I've just seen the tweets. God bless us. Political correctness gone mad. The tweet is not even mildly offensive.
